Interesting critiques. Maybe in Lausanne 5 there will be a change, but I do not think Lausanne Congress is about Multi-language or multi-cultural worship. And to be equitable, how are you going to represent the 7000 languages in the world and the various cultures in worship, especially in view of the fact that everyone at Lausanne 4 spoke in English? I did not hear anyone complaining when I was there at Lausanne 4. Lausanne is about the Great Commission, not worship styles. I think this discussion is making a mountain of a molehill.

I think if we ask ourselves "what is the goal of the great commission?" we will definitely find there is an end goal of multi-lingual worship, as the panelists point out. To be specific, from (Revelation 7:9)..."people from every nation, tribe, and LANGUAGE, worshiping." So we know there will be worship in different languages at the throne! In fact, the perfect realization of the great commission is multi-cultural worship. I would be interested to know if you asked anyone who wasn't a native English speaker what they thought about the worship songs in the repertoire and the fact that non-English songs were intentionally not included for the event? I'm sure that would spark an interesting conversation. Sometimes people don't share their critiques or pain if they don't feel there is a welcoming curiosity awaiting them on the other side. I think this conversation is VITAL. We might not be able to include 7000 languages, but in order to reflect the goal of God (all nations enjoying and sharing in his presence and his glorious Kingdom) there should have been an effort to ENJOY the vast riches of worship that Lausanne has at its fingertips!

@DoulosDave - Please note that several of the panelists mentioned that it is definitely NOT about representing all the cultures at L4. That's not the purpose or the standard. And although you didn't hear anyone complaining, you also didn't ask people about it. I specifically asked my various random seat companions each day as I traveled to and from L4 (without giving my own opinion) and *every single person* I asked had problems with it. From the 40-something Black professional Marketplace representative to the Latin American young leader who wished there was more than token Spanish; literally everyone I asked expressed an opinion that it was a missed opportunity. They found it surprising that at a place like L4, where intentional diversity was a prominent part of "declaring and displaying Christ together" in many other aspects of the conference, it was completely missed in the song choices.
