These people seem completely out of touch. When the gentleman claimed that Europe is 'leading,' I couldn’t help but laugh. Leading in what, exactly? Overregulating and punishing their own businesses to the point of collapse? If this is their idea of leadership, it’s both troubling and misguided. Have they even looked at the economic growth rates of the USA and China compared to the EU? And when confronted with concrete questions about competitiveness, they deflect with vague, meaningless responses instead of providing clear answers. If these are the people making decisions in the EU, we are in serious trouble.

Stop wasting your time talking about money. Money is NOT the probem. The real problems are: - the lack of natural resources including energy: Europe is just too small and we just don't have enough of those - the decline of human capital: the average level of qualification is now disastrous So basically: real assets and people, NOT money. Money is just backed on all this.

The arrogance of a spoiled chattering class - talking down to people who are struggling. Fiona Scott personifies this more than anyone. She feels ever so educated and on the moral high-ground. Yet it is exactly her class and her socio-economic silo that got the US into the mess that made Trump possible in the first place. The most risible statement came from Heather Grabbe, though, who proclaims that Europe has the "defence where-with-all to go it alone without the US". How out of touch with reality can you be? Must be the effect of spending too much time in left-wing-social-sciences. Even if Europe all of a sudden had the political will to cut its social spendings and move from 2 to 3 or even 4% of GDP on defence (which it doesn't!) it would take 10, 15 or even 20 years to build strategic autonomy from the US. How out of touch can you be? And then there is this German, Guntram Wolff, who proposed that European companies should sell more on the domestic market. Does he have any data that suggest growing demand for European car makers, machine builders, chemical manufacturers etc in Europe that they can realistically and competitively serve? Good luck with that. Reality is going to be the opposite: One can only wish European conglomerates good luck in escaping Europe and reducing their dependancy on an over-regulated, tech- & innovation-unfriendly market.

I did not hear the word entrepreneur during this hour. Sweden was seen as a good example and Sweden spends 3.5% of GDP on R&D. In the EU core countries Germany, France and Italy the savings quota is over 20%. With some increased risk taking mentality people with put some of their savings in R&D.

Achieving SCALE means reducing taxes and regulations that demotivate and limit entrepreneurs, trade, business investment, and risk taking. Increase funding to institutions that support the commercialization of university and government research. Airbus is an example of European success through scale that is beating Boeing. Repeat this in industries like military equipment, shipbuilding, energy, automotive, communication, entertainment, food and beverages, etc. Incentivize young, global entrepreneurs, innovators, and researchers to move to the EU with attractive visas. Collaborate with democratic Western nations on policies that link trade to right values. Honor right values and stop prostituting youself (Germany, Italy, France) to autocratic, trade manipulators, and environmentally destructive nations like China, Russia, and others.

@gergokovacs28152 ай бұрын
imo, the decline of a massively over-populated continent's population is a net positive. we should completely refuse any "replacement" or an apparent social engineering attempt of having 1/3-1/3-1/3 targets of European, Arabic and African population within Europe. To me this is a red line and far more important than any GDP or short term statistics. European culture should be kept 99% European, the rest needs to be repatriated as soon as possible. The GDP is for the people, and not the people are for the GDP. If there is security, cultural cohesion, income stability and unity, growth is not even needed. We don't need 1000 more gadgets and useless instant consumption triggers.

As an economist myself, I find it disturbing how disconnected these people are from the ones they pretend to represent. The EU economy is fucked up. Prices had been risen to the moon due to printing excessive money in pursuit of the monetaristic approach as per Milton Friedmann, while incomes didn't go up. I remeber the bullshit of Tayloristic "job-enlargement" and "job-enrichment" - meaning nothing else but fewer employees to cover the workload of more and more that were made redundant. Productivity is at an all-time high, this is why people burn out. Purchase power is in free fall. There is exactly two roads out of it. 1. For every gross salary, stop taking contributions and taxes but add 9 times the amount as a subsidy and transfer it into the bank account of the emplyoee. Thant means the government loses its income and pays debts to the work force they fucked up like reparations from the government for decades of mismanagement. 2. Bring prices down to 10% of their current levels by compensating every company when thry lower they prices simultaneously by transferring subsidies, non refundable and also as some sort of reparations to the economy. Either way, it means a "we surrender" white flag waving by the government. Sounds radical? Well, what will be the alternative? Things continue as they do. Sooner or later, politics sees budget cuts and lower ranks ending up on the streets. In the mantime, the EU transforms into India of 1980. Small thin layer of people living in wealth as it is unheard of and a vast layer of people that are simply poor. Poor in all shades, but even working poor. I don't see any other future, to be honest. Even a switch to Keynesian anti-cyclic investments is not feasible to revive the economy, not if the EU demands public tender invitations on cross-border level. Keynesian investments would only work ifn member states get back their powers and invest local only, employing only local enterprises for public assignments. No cross-border tenders anymore. Else, Holland invites to tender and a Bulkgarian company gets the green light, because they are cheaper. This means a capital flow from Holland to Bulgaria. It does not mean any economic implulse to the national dutch economy. This is only an example, but it shows what has to be altered. The super-state shit of Bruxelles simply has to be unplugged and every member state has to finance its own economic rivival by Keynesian investments. The bcapital market union only serves to draw mony out of the economy. It doesn't provid growth and it doesn't provide any impuleses.

EU hates the minorities. In this way of thinking only german and french people count. All others are or will became enemies. This is somewhat the mentality from fascism, communism, marxism. The germans are ever the best in isms. As antifa and other modern nazzi organisation they will use force to rule over the mases. To achiev this goals they have to enslave and control the population in every country. Germany has implemented this control. Police control police and they are controled by some minions of Soros. Total police state. ex. Policemen beats a women, crushes the EYE SOCKETS. He is free, works still as a policemen. The control is important. Draghi is just the circus. So just to recap: You have been warned not to impose granular regulations because of the unavoidable side-effects on a quickly developing digital sector in which EU is already lacking behind. Still it has been driven in the past few years with a lot of excitement and the promise of a "level playing field with Big Tech". And now you're telling us digital entrepreneurs that (1) you struggle yourselves organizing the laws on a map overview, (2) the fastest growing sector is regulation consultancy and (3) there will be more regulation to come for unification purposes but it will take another few years and it's still not quite clear what to expect. And everyone's wondering about "EU's slow productivity growth". As a proud European and a years-long rhetorical defender, the nicest thing I can say is you people are not seeing the forest for the trees, pretentiously ignored all previous warnings and still only listen to the wrong people. With this "philosophy" in place, expect not ever to catch up and stay a consumer of tech. Ambitious people will flee to UK/US and re-import products for EU market to only consume.
