i think my approach is right correct if im wrong. eccentricity is constant throughout the ellipse to maintain that particular locus. which is that said ellipse. each angle from the focus to point p must make an angle of theta with the major axis for the point p to be described as (acost, bsint) now we know both angles are the same. thus we can say that 2theta+some angle at p=180 degrees by line properties. now we have a ray from focus1 hitting point p. angle of incidence must be angle of reflection due to constant eccentricity as thus the angle of incidence will also be theta. at the tangent at p, the angle of incidence will be equal to angle of reflection. introducing a normal we notice that we get a 90 degree angle as its orthogonal to tangent and then theta and some angle beta. now theta and beta must be 90 degrees as angles on a line are 180 if summed. hence the normal MUST bisect the angle 2beta into 2 beta angles to maintain the eccentricity of the ellipse and property of reflection. this is a direct consequence of theose two properties. hence any normal to a tangent will bisect the two meeting focal lines at P. Now please it is a long read but do tell if i am correct in my formulation or not. this is merely a consequence of symmetry. its very informal though.
