I would love to make one, and I would love to make a train horn that is the loudest in the whole world. It would have over 10 billion dB. I mean really freaking loud that would actually send a shockwave to any window or any area that it was shattered glass that would give anybody just a big heart attack. 😂😂😂😂 i’m just joking, but that would be funny as hell at 1 AM or 2 AM in the morning when everybody is asleep in the neighborhood everybody would have to wake up when I decide to wake up everybody that’s the way I want it can you imagine if somebody did that to you? What would you all do? 😂🤣

Can you make one that makes more of a ship horn sound??
@MrGhostVortex3 жыл бұрын
I want to make a Leslie 200 single horn, and a boat horn. It's all in the tuning, lengthening the horn bell changes notes, anything note doable.
@funguy79793 жыл бұрын
@@MrGhostVortex I would be interested in one that would fit on a lifted truck

Yup, it was mounted like that intentionally, traditional K5LA mounting wouldn't work for what I had in mind.

What’s your diaphragms made out of
@MrGhostVortex4 жыл бұрын
These where Lexan Plexiglass, polycarbonite sheets found at most hardware stores. I've been experimenting with stainless steel sheets, as they give a more rich/crisp sound.

Does fiberglass flares put out as much sound or DB as the transmission funnels Nsscottteague used?
@MrGhostVortex7 жыл бұрын
Frostywinter10 They put out about equal in db. I just prefer the look of the trumpet. Realistically though, if you where mass producing these and you where looking for a specific acoustic sound, yes the trumpet style is better. But the transmission funnels preform just as good with no noticeable audible difference.
@Frostywinter107 жыл бұрын
Are you planning to do some PVC ship horn? Because Fiberglass is well suited for any pipe size. And the surface area of the diaphragm and pipe is twice the diameter of one of the 3 inch. So that is 6.
@MrGhostVortex7 жыл бұрын
Frostywinter10 I've always got plans for more horns. Just recently got a pair of horns mounted and tested on another truck, tuned to the two lower bells of the Leslie RS5T. I do plan on making a single Leslie 200 or something similar to a ship horn...I just need time😋
@Frostywinter107 жыл бұрын
I saw PVC flanges or reducers 6 or 8 inches. And a Leslie 300 or Cunningham 6b is a good one. Maybe louder than K5. Leslie 200 is much smaller than a 300. And on Ebay, the 300 was very close to beating a K5.
@MrGhostVortex7 жыл бұрын
The horns I build are meant for vehicles, so size is a factor. I do want to build one for the shop, in which case size and db won't be an issue. I do want to try the 6 or even 8 inch PVC parts, and maybe a stainless steel or aluminum diaphragm for more crisp sounds.

Where is this train headed?
@MrGhostVortex7 жыл бұрын
These trains haul to a distributor outside the county. Basically they are glorified yard engines that move cars around to various distributors for export. Its easier to move imported freight to other places to be exported to the rest of the stats rather than have other engines come here to the port to pick up loads.

On the first blow, all 5 bells are working. Although it doesn't sound like a K5LA, I really like the sound!! Great job and fantastic horn!!! You did good! I wish you'd put it on top of the truck cab. Anyhow, super fantastic job on making your M5-like K5LA. Your valve is equally great and super good imagination on making it!

Yeah, I made it look that way just due to space issues when mounting it on the truck. The LA mounting style is big and limits locations.

It appears that it ain't so much the chambers having to be different in construction but the bells themselves for tuning as well and the diaphragms used for maximum decibel output are the keys to a complete in tune product such as this. Thanks for the tips and all I've seen makes me want to attempt a build real soon.

In this video only the #1,3,5 bells are sounding, the #2&4 are silent. VERY nice looking construction though, I really like it! Instead of the usual funnels used as bells, you have real trumpet-shaped bells! Are these PVC too?
@MrGhostVortex9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Those are fiberglass bells/trumpets I made and formed, the only PVC parts is the main horn body and air manifold.
