How do you know the shelf life of a Lego set my man?
@The_Brick_Side5 күн бұрын
@@BrickzfoshoGreat question. Generally the shelf life of Lego sets will be around 1 to 2 years, however there are exceptions to this. Some sets get extended year on year if they’re selling particularly well for Lego, and larger more expensive sets can also be around for longer. I use the ‘Brick Fanatics’ website to look at retirement lists for the year. It’s not 100% accurate but pretty close. Some sets fall off the list and others can be added to it during a year. It’s generally a lot more accurate from September time and there’s also other retirement lists out there. The only sure fire way we can see what’s retiring is when Lego put sets on the ‘last chance to buy’ section of their website.

Good video, is there any worry that sets like the LOTR brick heads will be oversaturated in the secondary market with so many investors seeing them as good investments?
@The_Brick_SideАй бұрын
@@mikeearl4675 Thank you for your comment and yes a very valid point here. I always feel there’s a worry when too many KZbinrs are talking about or hyped about the same sets. I made mistakes last year buying sets based on too many people rating a set as their number 1. Like all Lego investing, this will come down to supply versus demand. With BrickHeadz, you’re looking at Lego store / Lego.com exclusivity (not available anywhere else) so you’re very limited as to how many of this set you can pick up. I don’t think it’s widely known you can ‘beat the system’ and order more than your quantity limit (usually 5) after a certain time, or after a set returns to stock after it’s sold out. We know BrickHeadz can do very well in retirement and I know 1st hand all retired LOTR sets have smashed it in the secondary markets…

GWP (especially if it's Star Wars), other "IP" (Intellectual Property sets with the possible exception of from movies that didn't do that well in the theater), and non-City sets seem to do well when they are moderately prices to start with. If you can resist temptation to sell and hold on for a little more than a year those prices tend to go up to a point that you can make a bit more money. Do not focus on rarity or "limited production" with the possible exception of Star Wars sets. Deal in what you actually like and have interest in - if you do not like Ninjago don't collect / resell it - you will develop a sense of what is a good deal, how the prices would likely trend, and even if the set might be popular.

Another really valid point here. Time has been the best test for me here. I’ve stored some Lego sets in our loft and our previous loft for years. Many thanks to you. I’ve often watched Lego investing videos and thought, “where’s that presenter storing all this” so I thought I’d share where and how I store the bulk of mine. A few cupboards are also pretty full of Lego 😂 I’ve sold on eBay for years and pride myself on 100% positive feedback. I’ve pondered doing this full time one day which lead me to Amazon where it’s easier to sell multiple copies of the same set. Again there’s a lot to weight up here. To start I’ll need a computer and a printer where I’ve got away without so far with just a phone+ iPad, then there’s the inflated prices that are achievable with high costs against lower eBay fees but lower sales prices. A lot for me to consider and weigh up. I think regardless I’ll still sell larger sets on eBay where I’d pay a lot to have them shipped to Amazon as single items where postage is spread when you’re sending lots of smaller sets altogether. There’s a lot to say about selling on FB Marketplace so I’ll probably make a video about it in its own.

Good video. I do enjoy watching peoples reviews of previous year's investments. My only (constructive) criticism would be that if you're using eBay selling fees to calculate your ROI, you should really be using eBay sold prices to give a more realistic return. (Amazon prices are always much higher, but so are their fees.) You'd still be in profit I'm sure, but not by as much... and I suspect your No.1 slot might be filled by a different set using this method.
