I am complete noob, so don't judge me, but why didn't Nakamura take queen at C3 with horse at e4? Instead he took the horse with pawn at b7 to c6. (4:30)

cause Ne7 forks queen and king then
@MrSpeedyAce
@MrSpeedyAce 3 ай бұрын
I believe it's because after knight takes queen on c3, white knight goes e7 check to fork the black queen. Knight takes queen, rook takes knight. Magnus would have one extra pawn in a bishop vs knight endgame, with no queens on the board so it's an easy win. Bishops are more powerful than knights in this case. If you keep queens on the board, you get more dynamic plays and chance for opponent to make a mistake.
@simonetozzi7912
@simonetozzi7912 3 ай бұрын
Essentially, Nakamura chose to keep the Queens on the board. I doubt it was the right choice, though.
@simonetozzi7912
@simonetozzi7912 3 ай бұрын
At least Nakamura avoided Magnus' rook infiltrating in the 7th rank. Nxc3, Ne7+, Kf8, Nxc8, Rxc8, Bd6+, Kg8, Re7. No engine used, just brain power.
