This sonata has something eerie about it. Well - Schubert probably had his fears.

This is the only piece I have heard Lupu play in which I feel 100% disappointment. I attribute this mushy, indistinct, weirdly “Romantic” style of playing to his teacher(s) and the time in which he played it. Glenn Gould revealed to the world and to eternity, and at about the same time, how Bach’s music should be played on the enormous, plodding resonator, the grand piano, which renders music from the Baroque great bowls of mush. Bach is always precise, the counterpoint is rich, complicated, and must be played with utterly clarity, or there is simply no point in playing it at all.

Cesar Franck's sonata is the one every violinist wants to play and it's the one I like the most for its incredible melancholy and strength, its power to transport whoever listens to it to a unique world.bravo Stoika Milanova!!!!!🎻♡ I was still 14 and would be turning 15 years old

There are three recordings of Piano Concerto 24 by Lupu. I don’t think he loved Mozart as much as his beloved Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert. This piece though seem to have been special to him.
@TheGloryofMusic2 ай бұрын
Beethoven and a friend were attending a performance of this work, and Beethoven turned and remarked, "We shall never be able to compose anything like that!". Beethoven went on to write his own C-min Concerto. Brahms said he preferred Mozart's because of the expert handling of chromaticism.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Bach at all….because Lupu used the sustain pedal, everything turns to thick mush to the degree that the counterpoint is entirely lost. And since Bach’s music exemplifies the highest point that the art of counterpoint ever achieved, if the pianist can’t reproduce that complexity, there’s absolutely *no point* to even pick up the score, let alone learn the notes!! If you want to hear Bach played beautifully on the grand piano, listen to Glenn Gould’s recordings.

Mit den ersten Anschlägen findet der Pianist Zugang in die beseelte und innige Ausdruckswelt des Komponoisten - und hält diese das ganzemächtige Sonatenwerk aufrecht.
