The last time the outside of St. Laurence's was painted was back in the 90s, i know , i was one of the painters , we were working for Joe Toland who volunteered our services free of charge plus he paid for the masonry paint , a decission i think hr regretted it as it took a lot more paint than he first thought, & it took over a week 😮

Dunno why am nostalgic for this place but it's where I grew up - across from the linkwood pub, went to broadholm primary, ended up getting a house in no #1 scheme lol.. still got auld pals fae back then & there pals for life! Hoose a grew up in was demolish in 90's same with both achools (new drummy high was built) The Drum!

I loved working on art projects in Drumchapel with Drumchapel Arts workshop DRAW which was set up in 1992 and still going strong in 2024. They’re based in the link wood high flats. We did the mosaics and stained glass work in the new builds, murals , working with primary secondary schools good to see more getting involved in their community

It's funny how things can start off so good and then turn to shit pretty quick.

About twenty five years ago I worked in Drumchapel bricking up windows in flats that were due to be demolished. We had a retired bricklayer helping us and he remarked on how time flies. “I built these flats when I was a young man and now I’m back to help tear them down .”
