The label is listed incorrectly! "SkanDisk"! The song also appeared on "Mike, Else And Mari - Scandinavian Smörgåsbord" album on the same label!

The first clawhammer banjo / mountain banjo I'd ever heard was this remarkable track on a mountain music compilation LP. It was like a journey to another world.

Lyrics: Priscilla Lee next door to me rehearsing for the stage Takes singing lessons from Professor Beany. She yells all day and neighbors say she should be in a cage But she thinks she's as good as Tetrazzini. She asked a neighbor if her execution was all right, And he replied, "I favor it tonight." CHORUS: In the morning when you're dreaming She will wake you with her screaming. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, up and down the scale she goes. Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, singing through her nose. She thinks she's as good as Patti. She's enough to drive you batty. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble. Ceilings crack and tables wobble, And the neighbors tell us Backyard cats are jealous When Priscilla tries to reach high C. 2. Her ah-ah-ah's and tra-la-la's scare all the birds away. They think it is a seagull or a vulture. But she'll declare her voice so rare is being cultured say! The neighbors swear it sounds like agriculture. Her teacher said, "I think your throat is full of music, but 'Twould be much better if you had it cut." CHORUS: In the morning when you're dreaming She will wake you with her screaming. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, she eats birdseed all the day. Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, "choke!" the neighbors say. When she warbles a cadenza, You'd think she had influenza. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble. Ev'rybody starts to wobble. Once a copper heard her And thought it was murder, When Priscilla tries to reach.... High C!

Fun fact about the NBC Chimes: In the 1940 Disney animated short film Fire Chief starring Donald Duck, the NBC chimes are used when Huey, Dewey, and Louie fall on top of Donald.

Love this cool jazz tune, originally done by Ralph Flanagan in 1953 on RCA Victor. Love the Swe-Danes, a hot be-bop jazz vocal trio of the late 1950s to early 1960s. Love the flip side to this record "The Scandinavian Shuffle" also, which was also a big hit on pop music radio stations back in 1960, and in their native Sweden and Denmark. I have two original 45-rpm singles of this record, the first on the late 1950s pink WB label, and the other on this 1960 red WB label.

Thanks, Jason! I'd been searching their 78s and this is a great find. What's the other tune on cylinder? By the way, I'm listening for Ada Powers' ukulele, but this may be before she joined the band

Are there any documents saying which family members were on this record? Powers' daughter Ada was one of the earliest ukulele players to record oldtime mountain music, so I'm listening carefully for ukulele-strums adding a lilt to her sister's guitar and mandolin on all the yt 78s I can find. She's introduced and solos (nicely) on their Old Virginia Reel record. Anyone have uke-sensitive hearing? 🙂

Thanks for sharing this one! I'm searching for examples of ukulele playing in oldtime music, and young Ada Rogers was part of the band. I *think* I hear uke as well as guitar here. Anyone agree? She's introduced and solos on the later "Old Virginia Reel" record, and I'm not sure of her age at the time.

Wow! This is an alternate take from the two copies I have!! The differences are very slight but the opening Cornet break in the intro drops a note on this one. On the other one he doesn't. And the final Cornet solo around 2:24 is totally different (jazzier!) Check the other videos posted of this record. You have a rarity here. Brunswick often pressed from two different masters and none of it is documented.
