Think I figured it out why these things are breaking. When I chiselled the plastic away from the metal to try repair it I discovered an anomaly. This may explain the dilemma every single car is facing with these seat pivots breaking. Once the plastic was removed on the left hand one was a large R stamped into the metal and the right hand one had a L in it. On closer examination and mechanically running the dual pivot which the small plate does. I believe whoever was in charge of the production run of these actuators made a huge mistake and the pivot plates were flipped accidentally putting excessive stress on both left and right. Probably pressed 1/2 a million of each with nobody catching on. So if I'm right it's pretty well criminal if they realised the problem. Did anybody else have a pivot pin that they could slip one of the holes in the steel over? Have seen things like this happen all the time. Though not usually on such a massive scale.

Why didn't they use a full metal plate? I am baffled after looking at the same 2 broken bits. Can't even use a stainless rivet into the plastic as I'm afraid of cracking the black plastic. WHAT A POS!!! Must be the same guys designing modern Harleys

Did this two years ago and still going. Now time for the other side. Unzipping the cover to remove the lock is easy and gives better access. Just take pics before removing so the cables get put back in the right place. The screws hold the mech in place are very firmly done up so will need a good ratchet with good length leverage. Instead of chipping the plastic away I melted it to make more pliable. But do so outside well ventilated and with care. It's a bit fiddly but the instructions here are as clear as can be considering. It works well and saves $$$$. Thanks for posting!

I just ordered one based on the reviews I've been watching. I currently own quite a few gmrs and a couple ham radios that I've unlock to be able to transmit on the gmrs channels. In a real world test given where I am located, lots and lots of mountains and hills and trees in the way,I have gotten up to 4.6 miles on radio to radio communications which is nothing short of a miracle here. They are very useful for family comms be it camping,hiking,hunting,ect,ect but also, and probably the most important for us is having some sort of comms if the cell towers and or internet go down. Even if only for short distances radio to radio, some comms is much better than zero comms in a shtf senerio. P.s, also you can program gmrs channels into that radio with a code so it would also give some extent of privacy while transmitting.
