I Really liked this video shared from a different view:) most of the Mud loggers I get to work with stay nice and dry and get to sit in the truck all day . I have to be muddy and miserable all day :) but I love that because I'm built for This .

Yes, also water based mud is more likely to run into troubles when interacting with certain clay types, especially swelling ones. Oil based mud is always the best practical option for the drilling itself. The trouble with oil based mud is possible confusion about oil shows and resistivity tools especially shallow resistivity. GC analysis can easily separate drilling additives from actual migrated or in-situ hydrocarbons.

I would rather be sailing on that river and heading up Lake Huron to the North Channel!

Yeah I was in damage control mode for most of that shift and trying to make sure the equipment for the mud logging company I was working for wasn't getting destroyed. They shut things down pretty quickly and then started circulating the mud through and trucking it off site. When they got the mud situation figured out they started drilling again and I was back to running samples and logging mud!

@@nealturluck1006 sure understood. WOuld be interesting to see how you see cavings and hole problems as another vlog

@@heartysailorman5719, oddly enough I'm more of a sailor than I am a mud logger. I graduated in August 2019 with an MS in Geology with the intent of working in corporate oil and gas. Chasing after a career led me to mud logging, but I hated it and quit in January 2020 and worked at the Taos Ski Valley until the world shut down, and with it, any prospects for a job in corporate oil and gas. I got a phone call today, Monday, April 13, 2020 about going to look at a Farr 395 in New Jersey that a friend of mine wants to buy. The last time I was in New Jersey was in September 2019 when I crewed for a friend of mine in the Star North American Championship in Toms River on Barnaget Bay only days before I left for the Permian Basin to start working as a mud logger. I can probably do a Vlog on the issues involved with open hole, there are many!

@@nealturluck1006 go for it! Its a great boat if its in decent shape. I'm looking for centercockpit - a Bene 42CC.. its my Plan B Sorry to hear theML job did not work out, its actually very important but underated by operators....but I think its the ML companies fault too. I lost a BHA last year partly because the ML did not tell me we were getting cavings.. :( Best of luck

Can't wait. There aren't too many V logs about Geology that I could find. Since most students graduate and get work as mudloggers, I found your video really awesome. I also watched your other videos btw and also subscribed. Anyway, can't wait for the new V-log. ✌😀

Watching these videos makes me think you should go to a community college to teach. 50% of my geology knowledge came from one JCC course I took on the topic from an excellent teacher.
