I remember the tunnel in the first map where you could infinitely load the afterburner. Was a fun game!

You can actually play the game widescreen, but it requires some work. The game does support widescreen resolutions, but it doesn't allow you to select any resolution above 1024x768, which means you need a widescreen resolution below that, such as 1024x576 and select it in game, and use dgVoodoo2 to scale the game up to 1920x1080p or 3840x2160 or whatever your prefer widescreen resolution is. I managed to do it by creating the 1024x576 Custom Resolution in NVIDIA control panel, unfortunately this meant I couldn't use DSR as NVIDIA for some silly reason doesn't let you have both DSR and custom resolutions enabled. So much for playing the game in 16:9 4k on my 1080p monitor. But I don't know if dgVoodoo2 works on your OS.

LOL yea I remember too. That's because everything was so slow paced those days. I thought people with 486DX4/100MGhz Cyrix processors and 8MB RAM were kings lol. I rocked a 386 for a very long time and worked very hard to optimize it for games. Including using boot-diskettes and all lol. My parents would not upgrade to anything else. Eventually that computer blew smoke one Summer afternoon and they finally decided to get an IBM Aptiva Pentium in Winter of 1995 lol. I think it was 100MGhz, 8GB RAM, 80GB HD and 2MB integrated video. I upgraded it to 16 ram and it flew but no matter what I did I could not upgrade the graphics on it with a card. It just wouldn't work. I tried for years and to disable the on-board video but the computer still wouldn't take any new vid-card. If it did, it would've been a great computer. My parents also didn't like me to go inside it so much but I really wanted to play some newer 3D games. This IBM computer actually outlived everything (15+ years), it was build like a tank, heavy too but it became obsolete because of all the Internet upgrades (like cable modems, etc..), which needed newer Windows versions

The graphics are much improved in this Re-Master, the original are very pixelated. If you come close to walls or surfaces you can see the squares lol. Here everything is more smoothed over and there is added lightening. You can look up old pics of the original Duke if you'd like to compare. But Duke's graphics never bothered me. Quake 1's graphics were pixelated too. Both games were from 1996

I realized with this game something which I wanna put a Note in here about. That is sorry - for keep checking the AutoMap, I think this is a major design flaw here in this game which disrupts the flow of it. The main problem is that everything looks the same around (graphics tile-set) and it's very difficult to know where you're going. Although my sense of direction is pretty good (not great tho), I think I'm going right or left, but in actuality I'm going to opposite way lol - so it's very easy to get lost in this game as a result. The AutoMap should be integrated and shown on the main playing screen for that reason. Thanks for viewing

@@Xanrax That's maybe because this game came out in 1997 and got overshadowed, swamped and buried by Quake 2 and all the other fps games that came out that year and shortly after. But I'm glad you found out about it from my channel hehe 😁 If you read my description on here, you will see my slight complaints about the level design (if you decide to get it). But I do think it looks cooler than it plays tho lol

@@Xanrax Sure sure yea, I wasn't comparing it, I was just saying it got forgotten maybe amid it and that's why you haven't heard of it. I recommend getting the GOG version as from my experience GOG shows more care in making their games fit for re-release (less problems with older games and more extra bonuses). Enjoy

Watching my video a little bit, I realized that 2nd level was kind of a drudge-fest but I didn't expect to fall to such a low health so quickly. Also, might I mention, this game is quite hard even on Medium difficulty so it was kind of a challenge to get through it while building up your weapons arsenal. So what I essentially had to do was try different strategies and ways to approach different areas if some weren't working. So I apologize for the frequent Reloads on that. Also playing with 1 Health at some point was pretty stressful but also kind of fun and rewarding to see how I would survive. I played unexpecting things, so I could've restarted level(s) and with my previous knowledge of what was in them, could've navigated them with more finesse probably. But ALL that wouldn't have been REAL so I CHOSE to play it RAW and UNEXPECTANTLY for a much more REALISTIC Gaming Experience Illustration. P.S. I really LIKE and ENJOY surprise elements

**facepalms** He had no idea there was a throttle until almost 28min into the game. Or that you can very easily outrun the infinitely respawning fighters and then never have to deal with them as they're too slow to ever keep up.

@@barricade8957 😄 I think the Afterburner you got to collect first before you can use it, and before then you can just speed up. Maybe you meant that throttle Even after (briefly) escaping the infinite respawning ships, others appear in the new sector you enter. That is if I remember everything right for now years after finishing this game At first, I also wanted to humor the game a bit, stay and fight everything and fly more slowly to look at the graphics. And then when stuff starts to repeat, I speed up the gameplay. I do that quite often with my games I play I also wanted to see if the ships would keep coming and for how long. I've quite forgotten since I last played this game as a teenager in highschool But yea, funny comment 🤣 I can see why it can be interpreted that way lol

There were many mods and fun times =) Also I think Quake goes well with Star Trek TNG (like in your pic). Because after some good Quake matches nothing beats resting yourself watching some TNG afterward 📺hehe

Regarding your play-style, yea it was hard to follow but you were efficient with it. A long time ago, I tried playing with high-sens too but I got hand pains from trying to control it so I settled for a more medium one

That's a VERY interesting fact, in fact Thanks for all your valuable insights and comments here. At the time I made this video of this game, I didn't think of looking up all the secrets and including them in the video - which is something that I should've done - but missed because I was kinda starting with this channel, so I didn't know or didn't occur to me. If you got any more tidbits of info or secrets please let us all know in here so we can check them out. Honestly, I am quite tired of this game but if I do decide to play the Re-Master (some time down the road), I'll make sure to consult you lol or do a better job of looking up all the included secrets before posting a play of this game

No these are Rune Quakers, usually (but not always) lower skilled players which rely on the power of runes which grant them special abilities (and fun ones too) to dispatch of opponents in creative ways lol. This [mod] has nothing to do with CTF and nowhere near it lol, but they were CTF groups for sure that time around as well, just this isn't it

lol true - but despite this, the game didn't really took off in popularity and didn't make that much money either - but to me it was a winner in my book. The vixen here was a real world model - I think the formula was good here but the timing wasn't. By 1995 people were mostly playing Doom and not side-scrollers. Found it on an internet archive site. Saw on the Wiki that this was supposed to be Jill of the jungle 2. It´s fun and I love those 90s pixel art games. Remember those glorious Bitmap Brothers games? I got Win10 as well but I played it thru GOG (well bought it), but it wasn't worth it at all and the biggest problem is that the controls didn't seem to work in-game 😐

I only ever played the shareware version of this on our Packard Bell Legend 750 Supreme. It was a lot of fun, so it's sad to here that the rest of the game is not as good.

@@ShutoStriker I'm not sure at all if we are talking about the same person, but it doesn't sound like Slot Zero. This admin is very lenient, he would only ban bot/ cheating users. Perhaps your IP fell within the range of a bot, I know I was mistakenly banned once as well but the error was soon fixed. Although Slot was an awesome player, whom I couldn't really touch as a newbie back in the day, he has somewhat weakened in skill over the many years and also does not care about winning that much. Although he play(ed) extremely rare (and now not at all), I've seen him go down a few times to some regular practiced players (I can even name them). So if all my memory is correct on this, maybe it is all a big misunderstanding here. Which is a good thing if you'd like to play again 😊 I don't think you would be still banned because it's been a long time and IPs change a lot meanwhile, but if you still are I encourage you to go to the forum and request an unban. Anyway, where I'm going with all this is that we'd like to see you playing on the server here so if you'd like to - then please do P.S. As for the origins of the mod and who really made it, now that I think more deeper into it, it might've been a team effort from longer time ago. But in recent times, it is the only one which emerged which maybe made me think that Slot was the sole creator. In any case, he heavily modified it to suit the needs and case of this Rune Quake server

Ahh yes, it's quite hard without it but there are some handy shortcuts to get around using rocket 🚀 jumps and some require Quad - which is quite scary lol. I'll do a tour of this map soon 😎

@@gemgaminggalaxyggg6953 We used to play this map with "Runes," you could get all kinds of diff. power-ups. fun stuff. At one time "ROCKETMAN," had over 360 "votable" maps to choose from. Great vid's, great game play. I forgot how much fun Quad damage was.

It's a bug in the demo playback program. And idk how to fix it. It's old, from 2011 and no longer maintained I think. I explained it also in the video description here
