Im so blessed and proud to be born, baptised, and raised in the greek orthodox church. Ive sat in on other church services, but nothing compares to the greek divine liturgy. It doesnt even have to be Sunday, i listen to this and it brings me closer to God, no matter what time or day it is. 🙏 Glory to God.

@@accmng The language is a sub dialect of Albanian but the people are not Albanian and do not live in Albania. They are Arvanites and live in Greece and Italy.

@@kourostatis They are Arvanites indeed, they are not contemporary Albanians. But they have the same roots with the Albanians because actually they moved to Greece from Albanian soil. Anyway, in Greece because of political reasons and views of the Albanians as Turks it's sort of sacrilege to accept even that the arvanitic language has ties with Albanian .in Italy they are more relaxed from these prejudices, and they do not have any problem to accept some facts regarding their identity. @ There was no such country called Albania at the time the Arvanites moved down to Greece. The Arvanites are Greek Orthodox and identify as Greeks. In Sicily the accepted the Pope and are Greek Catholics but still use the Greek language in their church services not Albanian.

@@michaelpahountis8290 Τα κυπριακά είναι ελληνική διάλεκτος. Δεν είναι γλώσσα γί αυτό στη Κύπρο λέμε «Καλά Χριστούγεννα» όπως στην Ελλάδα. Παλιά οι παππούδες και οι γιαγιάδες μας ονόμαζαν τα Χριστούγεννα «Πασκα των Γεννών», όμως σήμερα δεν το λέμε πλέον.

@ Όχι. Παλιά οι παππούδες μας έλεγαν «Καλόν Πάσκα των Γεννών να φτάσουμεν». Δηλαδή Καλά Χριστούγεννα να φτάσουμε. Τώρα δεν το λέμε αυτό και λέμε «Καλά Χριστούγεννα».

«εσπαρτήκασιν» σημαίνει έχουν σπαρτεί. Δηλαδή το γέλιο, το κλάμα, η χαρά και η πίκρα έχουν εμφανιστεί ταυτόχρονα και πάνε χέρι χέρι.. «Πκίανει την στράταν την παλιάν» Εδώ εννοεί ότι όποιος θέλει τα πολλά θα καταντήσει πάλι φτωχός. Στη δική του περίπτωση στη φυλακή γιατί προφανώς θα έκανε κάποια παρανομία για να πλουτίσει και κατάντησε στη φυλακή και πάλι στη φτώχεια.

i love christ almighty and pray to him always, for he is my lord. and the wonderful chants left behind by the medieval greeks are truly spectacular in every single way. HOWEVER, there has to be far more to Byzantine music than just the sacred chants of the greek church, right? there must be. nothing will ever stop me from loving and worshipping God almighty, but c’mon, byzantine culture has to have more than just these most holiest of chants, right?
