It seems to happen right as it's playing its death animation. So if I get hit right as it just started its death sequence, the game freezes. I guess we could say that the Battle Pong has a game-ending desperation move lol. So far the viewers enjoyed this stream. I would of did a Slash Woman run but most of these guys haven't seen this game since the flash-browser days, so I stuck with Mega. You should check out the X Next stream I did, if you can overlook the compressed sfx noises. Most of the viewers got a kick out of the cutscenes, making memes out of scenes like Megaman's 1000x kamehameha buster.

@@Firesawdust Starting to play catch up on vids and comments after IRL crazies kept me out of stuff for a chunk of time. I did see one of those early live attempts you tried where mic was accidentally on, think it was mmxn :3 There is a lot of silliness stuffed in these things to meme on. Crashes like this one are usually calling on a non-existent object which I can imagine if you got the misfortune of frame perfect timing game didn't have time to update effects or duplicated something. Like say the boss dying explosion and your shot hit explosion both attempting to spawn at once using same stuff and making code die by going out of range. The joys of programming *cries* Wonder if I could make actionscript like toss the error on the screen for the world and me to see what oopsie thing I did instead of having to try and recreate it to see the crash output.

Yep, I have to say Sic/Sin story has to be my favorite out of the 4 lol. Interesting, I never thought of effects being used that way. I can’t wait to get back into programming. I decided to start out small and focus on making simple levels like MM7 since they’re pretty short and I love how each level has their own character/vibe. I feel you on that. Xcelent job Fire! With the wall climb and air dash, playing through these big open levels is fun and interesting. I like the big open rooms with exploration. Your Link Man stage would have been better with X as the character because he's capable of navigating difficult areas.
@Firesawdust
@Firesawdust Ай бұрын
Thanks man and nice pun lol! Honestly, I was having so much fun building this stage until saving-lag starting kicking in (usually happens with big levels), which prompted me to start winding down on the stage size. This stage has shown me that in levels like this, and Link Man, should encourage replay-ability by keeping the level mostly linear but awards those who explore it with hidden bosses and extra collectibles. After watching you play Link Man, I'm thinking about going back to cut down on the enemies and hazards, and reducing the amount of necessary keys to get to the end but instead reward the players who explore. I really liked how I was strategically placing the enemies for most of the stage. For instance, with the section in the mansion where you had to climb the ladders to get to the room with the MM2 Crushers, I analyzed the how those devil shield enemies worked (3 blocks forward, 7 blocks backward - or 4 from their initial starting position). I made it to where if you go too fast, you take damage and may possibly die to the crushers, but if you either destroy them or use your air dash, you can save on health, allowing you to go faster in the stage. Speaking about optimizing routes, once I finish all 8 mavericks, I might strategically alter the weaknesses, hidden areas, and make some tweaks to help players optimize their maverick routes before taking on the fortress stages at the end, since this level pack does have different endings.

Same here! I really love how it forces us to maximize how much we can do in a limited hour. I know that big ideas are a no go in this challenge, unless you have experience. I feel like Marino should do this, but make kaizo levels not allowed. Yeah that would of totally added to the atmosphere of the level. It kinda reminds me of that Megaman Zero 1 level with Leviathan as the boss. I also got to send you the link to Ethervil playing our two levels side by side. Next time we do this challenge, I am going to come up with 1 idea specific for that challenge. @@mopbrothers I’m glad you like it so far! Yeah, I would say the train section is probably the weakest of the 3 sections mostly since it’s kinda just linear. Like there’s not much you can add unless you are coding, which I could add more environmental influences. I really love how this stage pushed my text-editing decorations. I had to use two - three tiles to compliment each other, otherwise you’ll form something that doesn’t make sense or looks bland, so I had to stretch my imagination a bit. I might go back to re-palette a few portions of this stage in the final build, but other than that, I can’t say that I didn’t have fun! @@mopbrothers Same here! So far I got you, Jet, and Retro. Then if you go outside the MMM box, I got Wade and Emi lol. I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with, they’ll be a review waiting for it ;). My advice is similar to this level, let your imagination spread. One thing that the X Mod taught me was to appreciate 1.7.5, because while it doesn’t have as many asserts of 1.8 nor 1.9, you can do so much with a limited number of them. Like with this stage, I was taught that you can still use a limited number of enemies as long as you strategically place them, allowing for each unique encounter with them. Even the best part, Topman boss fight. I had to be really creative, because normally I would do simple boss arena challenges or do a robot master duo, but since that wouldn’t really work with Topman, I had to think of how to make the boss fight a bit more engaging. With me consistently refining his boss arena with the Top platforms, spacing in the walls, and the rail platforms, I finally crafted a boss fight where it appears like Top Man can attack at different parts of the arena. I still feel a bit iffy on the boss fight, so if players think it is too difficult, I might make some adjustments to nerf the difficulty but save the original fight for Extreme mode or for a Hard Mode. That innoventive thinking is what makes working in this Mod so special.

Yep, honestly the first 60% of the level was really fun to make. For the Ring Man boss, I thought of what would make a good desert boss. Knowing that bosses could fall beneath the sand, I thought of making a Sandworm type of boss, where you could think of Ring Man’s Rings as the sand worm striking you, and him jumping as it leaping from the sand. I can’t wait to see that boss in code. Originally Pharaoh Man’s boss theme was Rocket Adventure’s boss theme, which didn’t really fit the boss fight mood. So I changed it to FFV’s boss theme, representing the eerie moment of a strong foe rising from beneath the sand.

That’s kinda how I felt with this level, or really the levels I played in Magmml3. The music is good and the game feels good coming back to it. Ahhh your voice. We’ve both heard our voices. I usually don’t use my voice in Rockman videos, but I think I might. Somehow I wonder if it would take the magic away. I didn’t play Megaman Zero much, but I liked the 2nd game a lot, cause ElPiezo was interesting. The 1st Mega Man Zero game was also interesting. I like the Aztec Falcon level with the rain. 🌧️ Megaman X and Zero games have much better level design than most classic games, but I don’t like the animal men maverick art design. I really like the orange Honey Woman part of this level. Though I still don’t like this fan game. After I play my Mega Man Maker levels, I find it very hard to go back to this basic level design. @Firesawdust
@Firesawdust 2 ай бұрын
Originally I was against the idea of me using my voice in my videos, my reasoning in the same vein as yours in the sense of taking the magic away. What got me to try using my voice was that there are probaby like a million videos that exist of Rock n Roll without any commentary, and I was like, "hmmm, if people were to come to this channel to watch this video, just to be presented with the same video I just watched two years ago, it wouldn't really make people want to come back to watch part 2." So I thought to change things up a bit and just treat this game as sort of a podcast, where people can watch the footage before them, listen to the music, while at the same time listening to what I have to say. While my ideas sound good on paper, in reality, without a script, you will just kinda ramble since you pretty much ran out of things to say XD. My only issue with voice-over is that it can be inconsistent since I don't want my parents to hear me recording my voice-over lol. I tried doing a commentary blind-playthrough of Magmml 3, but due to me having to concentrate on not dying in the levels, I was quiet most of the time and it just got awkward lol. Yeah Megaman Zero 2 was a good game! As a kid I loved that game a lot along side 3. MMZ3 was the first actual Megaman game that I came close to beating. The strangest thing is that Megaman Zero 2 was the first game I had beaten in the series, since the final bosses in Z3 and Z4 were hard. Same! I found the Aztec Falcon stage to be really cool! It made me think of me parkouring through New York City, then I would do a matrix fall of a tall building in the middle of the rain. Actually in my level pack, when I get to Topman's stage(still debating whether I should replace him with an actual maverick or just keep him), I'm planning on borrowing multiple ideas from most stages in that game. I just wish that I was done with this Cyber Stage that I'm working on X_X. Yep 100%, I wish that vanilla Megaman maker added in wall climbing and dashing, I could easily make X/Zero levels in 1.9, since there is so much to work with and less chunky mashups of gimmicks lol. I wish so too, honestly once I finish the last remaining 3/4 (not sure if I want to add Tails or just make him a bonus level), I'll probably just return to my making of Sonic-based levels. Not sure if you have played the GameGear or Segamaster system titles, but at one point I was working on them in 1.9. Or even better, I might just turn the Archie Comic: Sonic & Megaman World Collide, into an actual level pack, where you get of both Megaman and sonic-like level design But yeah, fangame wise, I am not looking forward to editing out some deaths in Part 3 of Rock N Roll X_X

I’m more concerned about getting game changing options like turning off enemy respawning or swimming than how many new enemies or bosses we get. Or bolts. Or piloted Sniper/Ride Armor. I originally came back after 5 years (2017 - 2022) to start putting my Fangames from paper to levels and it gave me ideas on what to do when I get started on the actual coding part. For me the issue is the commitment to MMM, since the more I play basically the same game over and over again I start to get bored of it. For instance, I had a certain someone ask for repeated playthroughs of MMN Remix, which was fun to me for the longest time, but when you commit to the same thing over and over again, the fun begins to go away and you become less engaged. I still play the game often, but not as much as I used to since the levels are burned in my brain now which takes the fun away X_X. It’s been about 2 or more years since I last played a Sonic game or even a final fantasy game. At some point, I’ll probably switch the Megaman stuff over to coding, while I focus on other games like Sonic and Final Fantasy. I love Megaman Maker, but sometimes hiatuses aren’t so bad when you think about it, since they allow other games to shine 😌. That being said, there will never come a day where I stop playing Megaman for good! I probably should start taking notes from Powerguy. Based off what I have seen from 1.6 -> 1.7, I can see how it was such a big update. Not only was it big in terms of the scale of content, it brought some new features that weren’t probably even dreamed of lol. I wish I playing Megaman Maker at that time. Megaman Maker X was where I really started to appreciate 1.7.5 with how it forces you to think outside a box a bit for your gimmicks lol

@@Firesawdust 1.7 was when I really started getting into deep level design. Before 1.7, all levels were just straight linear single screens. Old, traditional, boring design. 1.7 added Roll and an overall different engine feel. Those Gloom City levels brought out a new way to play Megaman. 1.7 was where I started questioning Megaman design and began to realize how much better levels could be with new level formulas. It’s not 2D that makes Megaman outdated and boring. It’s not even 8 bit graphics. It is dull, old, level design that has been rehashed so many times that you wonder why you’re still playing it. I play Roll a lot because at least she feels somewhat new and controls a little more innovative. There’s so much that could be done with the franchise, but it never goes anywhere because apparently tradition is more important. Without the crushingly hard challenge of one hit deaths, the series shallowness and weak gameplay really show. The Classic series relies so heavily on instant death and tradition as its only means to stand out. I don’t want to review levels anymore because they all feel the same. I don’t want to brag, but my levels are so much better and interesting than everyone else’s (Jethawk74 makes some good stuff though). I hate to be so negative, but it’s the truth and how I feel. I love Megaman and always will, but I’m thinking of moving on and doing something else on KZbin. I’m a big fan of Final Fantasy Tactics, but I’ve played that game to death as well. We’ll see.

Yeah, recently when the 5 GB titles came out on the Switch, I was playing through MM III, and I just wonder what the creators were thinking with stages like Snake Man, Dust Man, and Drill Man. That was the game that I used a whole lot of save states for, not because of the checkpoint placements, but for the "got ya" moments. I was playing through Gemini Man's stage, and I got to the water section, and I forgot what got me, if it was the dragon fly or whale creature thing, but the way in which they placed the enemies and the physics of the game, made their hits feel like instant kill. When I get around to covering the GB titles on my channel, I'll be sure to mention the difficulty spike from MM I to MM III. MM IV and V are definitely the kings out of that pack.

Hey! Thanks for playing through my level! I see you really explored everything in the level and got 100% of the items! Great job! I was surprised you didn't use the Fuse Man's weapon to light up the dark areas more. Star Crash is helpful for it too. Originally the dark area was a lot bigger and had less light, but it was too annoying so I shortened it up a lot. The electric part was also going to be bigger, but I decided to shortened that up as well to avoid too much backtracking and keep it simple. I wish MMM had a way to add a text to tell the player info, but maybe that will come in 1.9. Also, nice thumbnail of Roll driving the car!

Lol yeah, that’s just my habit with Super Mario 64 or mission based levels, I try to 100% complete them so that way I can explore all of the level. That’s one of the reasons why I tend to like open missions based levels like these more than metroidvanias. For instance in my X mod level you just saw, there was a mini section where you had to collect keys in order to get to the midboss. I like to make the level more engaging by changing up the gameplay in the middle of it, like with my next level (a cyber based one), in one of the cyber worlds you go to, I’m borrowing a gimmick from my Colorwoman stage, where you can rotate the room as you are moving along. A few sections will require it, while a couple don’t, but if you want to get the heart Tank, sub tank, and M tank, you’ll have to do a quick puzzle to get them in that world. However, if you are not a big fan of puzzles, then you can hop into another cyber world in engage in another gimmick. Yeah dark sections are pretty challenging to make them stand out. It’s either that they are alright or too difficult. That section kinda reminded me of PacMan though. I was thinking about using Fuse Man’s weapon but I found the Starcrash to be useful, since it always surrounded me with light, but I forgot that Fuse Man’s weapon can light up the whole room if it hits an enemy. Honestly that was a good execution of Elec Man’s beams and the Fuse Man electric floor things. It’s like all of the paths accommodated all of the possible mistakes a player would make. Like the enemies and elec beans weren’t out for blood lol. The thumbnail was very fun to make! This was the first time I got a bit creative with the thumbnail. I tried to go with the implications of Roll being the escapee after Megaman got Centaur Flash, and him just going through a barrage of stationed torrents attacking him. Next time, I might just rip a part of the level and edit out the background, and just replace it with one from adobe Firefly, then just add some cool touches to the enemies. And instead of me making it the thumbnail, I’ll just make it an opening to the video, since I feel like people might not easily recognize that this is a Megaman Maker video until they click on it lol (Sorry for the large brick of text lol, I’ll try to tone it down moving forth) - and yes, text in 1.9 would be great!

@@Firesawdust I really really hope 1.9 adds collectible tokens (like in magmml3) as a bonus for exploring levels. A map HUD would also be welcome to help players navigate levels easier. MMM really needs some serious updates if it’s going to stay exciting. Sonic and Megaman level designs go well together. A lot of people like to compare Megaman to Metroid, but I don’t think the Metroid style fits Megaman. Too much exploration can get tedious fast. Sonic levels have some exploration, but not an insane amount of backtracking like Metroid. Megaman and heavy backtracking do not go well together, but some backtracking is necessary to make a Megaman level interesting. Sonic is also linear like Megaman. It’s a fine balance of Sonic and Metroid elements that make great MMM levels. It’s why most MMM level creators stick to just linear single screen levels. It takes a lot of hard work to make quality nonlinear levels that aren’t boring, tedious, or annoying while still keeping that Megaman feel. I feel I’ve done a good job with my levels. You seem to favor the X series more. Classic and X are virtually the same. The only difference is the wall climb, which is why I was surprised MM11 didn’t have it as a purchasable shop upgrade. I really wish Capcom had just merged the two series into one to stop all the unnecessary confusion.

@@mopbrothers Well, I guess we will have to see in five days! I feel like they are definitely going to add something new to spice things up for 1.9, because if you think about it, there is not a whole lot of new Megaman content to add to Megaman Maker besides swimming, shopping bolts, and the double gear system. I feel like they are going to use this chance to add in more custom made assets. I agree on the fine balance part. Sonic level design is a mix of challenging platforming (with a few puzzles), speed, and some exploration, while metroid focuses on the fighting, backtracking, and heavy on exploration. Personally, I feel like the bigger the level, the shorter it must be. Megaman Next Remix is the closest example of the balance between Metroid and Sonic. Most of the levels are huge! While each level as a whole are linear, they are packed with sections where you have either a vertical/horizontal section or a mix of both. This game really makes almost every level engaging and it tries to make each stage stand on its own. For Megaman, in order for you to access all original weapons, you have to take the time to explore each stage to find hidden virus points which will allow you to unlock a specific weapon. Once I start creating my fangame levels, I'll make them linear but unlinear enough to encourage exploration to find some hidden items and just reward the player for taking extra time to explore the world in each stage. Honestly wall climb and dash adds so much to the Megaman gameplay. Similar to unlinear type levels, you can use wall climbing to uncover parts of the level you may not have seen if you were just playing the game regularly, plus you can add additional challenges. Dashing just changes the gameplay to be more about speed rather than taking your time to get through the stage.

@@mopbrothers I love X1 - X3 since each level in each of those games are engaging. For instance take Toxic Seahorse stage, you start out at the bottom of the sewers, then you have to climb out of it, then you go into the water. That sounds simple, but when you add in challenges like jumping between platforms, climbing up to get a heartank, then crossing the waterway, just to get to the other part of the sewers where Toxic Seahorse is. The crazy part is that flash games does this well! If you look at games like Megaman Zero Alpha, Sonic Earth, Megaman Time Trial, and Megaman X Next, flash games like those add more to make a level more engaging, instead of a simple, just get to the next level, you have to travel through either an unlinear level to get to the next area or a linear level, but getting the extra stuff requires some exploration.

@@mopbrothers Part of me thinks that the levels in X2 are shorter than X1, then I think about comparing Wire Sponge's stage to Chill Penguin, and they almost feel about the same. Like you said X3 had a lot of potential with the exploration in Toxic Seahorse stage, and the other stages that you mentioned, but they fell short in Tunnel Rhino's and Volt Catfish's stage. I feel like if they put more time into the game, it could of been the best out of the trilogy! I liked the concept of alternative endings and the butterfly effect, like if you don't defeat Vile early in X3, then then you have to not only suffer through an annoying final stage, but you also have to fight him as the boss of that stage and he is a bit more annoying. Also in, X1 I loved the concept of maverick stages affecting each other, like if you beat Chill penguin early, then the heart tank in Flame Mammonths stage becomes more accessible. Sadly there are not a whole lot of MMX fangames compared to the bajillion classic fangames. I hope that when MMX Next gets its remix (like Next Remix), MaelstormM will bring some interesting ideas to the table and really pick up the slack that Capcom fell after X3. I still can't wait for Corrupted to come out, but we probably got another 3 - 6 years before that game releases X_X. And then you also got Innocent Impulse. Personally I love the X series since they rely less on difficulty and focus more on making open levels or broadening them out for exploration like with X1 and X3, and overall just have less pits and spikes (just like Sonic). I can't say whether I like the X series more than the classic series, but I always love coming back to the first 6 X games

@@JetHawk74 I feel you on that. I remember for the most of my life, up until 2018, I couldn’t get past Citadel 2. I would play as Roll or Kz10, struggle through Tami, Shin, and Kz10’s stage, then get to Citadel 2 and drop the controller. For me, the stages were the trouble, but the bosses were the bane of my existence. Due to how fast the game was running from 2011 - 2018 (MaelstormM fixed the fps issue on his website), a simple dot or pit hit would be like an instant death. However recently, I went rogue and played the older version of the game on Flashpoint using my old laptop (low fps) and beat the game as Kz10. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, her playthrough was a struggle at first. The thing is though, you need the right upgrades in order to have a more enjoyable boss fight, which was stupid. But that’s where my next point comes in. I like the changes MaelstormM is making to the AIR version of the game. Not only will it run smoother, but the gameplay will be much more balanced (as in stronger attacks for shorter ranged characters and removing the grind-heavy gimmick from the game), clear indication on what is what in the pause menu, and the boss health. Hopefully he redesigns a couple of stages like Cyan’s Kaizo lava jump, Tami’s BS MM7 Crabbot tank boss, and Jazz’s stage. However, if those changes are not implemented, I won’t complain. I don’t think he’s going to get to the bonus stages in the next iteration of the game, till after sone updates on Next Remix. Personally, I don’t mind changes in aesthetics from traditional Megaman (although X4 - X6 went completely rouge on that), and story/gameplay. I do like how he’s forcing you to play your own boss character stage as an intro stage, to introduce you to the concept of the bosses. It was jarring at first to not take contact damage, but it honestly made things easier. When the Air version of this game releases, I’ll initially do a Roll playthrough on alternative music mode, and Kz10’s on original music mode. Whenever I release Kz10’s playthrough, get ready to see some crazy combos, because trust me you can stack damage very quickly and melt the bosses health away. Btw, the boss health bars and players are actually health bars rather than hearts 😇

Yep this stage quite literally took a lot of work to put into it. The building and testing side was the fun part and didn’t take too long to do. The fun part of creating this stage, was manipulating the fuse lasers in a way for them to act like the fuse laser turrets in 1.8. The not so fun part was the crashing X_X. Thankfully they fixed this in 1.8 of vanilla Megaman maker, but since this mod uses 1.7.5, it has its issues when it comes down to stages on this scale :,). The next stage’s video shouldn’t be this long (at max over about hour). Compared to this stage, the next stage (which is a cyber level), may take more effort to put into it since o have to be more creative in this stage, as there aren’t many cyber gimmicks in Megaman games, besides gravity switching, room rotation, and yoku blocks. If I want to create my own gimmick or one from an X game, I’m going to have to mash some ideas together in a creative way. MM3 lacks the charge shot, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing because most enemies don't take to many shots to kill. The bosses however are more a problem with guys like Shadow Man only taking 1 damage. Without Top Spin (or an E-tank) you are most likely going to lose no matter how good you are. I noticed how Top Man, Gemini Man, Snake Man, Hard Man, Magnet Man (I think), are pretty much the only long stages out of the 8, while the rest are fairly short. I feel like the devs could have done more with Shadow, Needle, and Spark Man stages. For instance, comparing Bucky O’ Hare, while their stages would be too long if it were a Megaman game, each stage did more with their gimmicks, and they felt like you were actually exploring the environment. Snake Man, Gemini Man, and Hard Man excelled at this, and I think that’s what ultimately make the early X series games so special. MM7 is my second favorite game because it basically illustrates what I would have loved to see done in a possible remake of MM3. Give each stage their own flavor, their own environmental, atmospheric adventure, and yeah lol. It falls behind MM3 since their levels are a bit short. But yeah, Gemini Man stage is pretty much the king of all 8 robot master stages. The only stage that would be difficult for me to make in Gemini Man stage standard, would be Top Man, because I don’t quite have an understanding of his environment. All I know is that it takes place on a planet with lots of tops spinnings, greenhouse, and that’s about it. MM2 GB added water to his stage, but that’s about all I could do with his stage lol. But yeah, MM3, 7, and 8 are my top 3 classic games. 8 is up there because of its gimmicks and environment exploration except for Tengu and Frost Man

While, I don’t mind difficult level design, I do mind if it has heavy consequences. The final stages are where the level design issue really comes in full force, as I was practically fatigued by then. The boss fights, music, story, and art are pretty much the spotlight of this game.

@@Firesawdust Of all the fan games, this one has the most instant deaths. Everything is methodically laid out and you’re forced to do one exact thing to win boss fights. It’s just pattern memorization. I hate it. I don’t know which is worse, this or Megaman Unlimited.
