Hi Sissel, I'm very delighted to stumble upon this video, and happy that this score I spent a lot of effort typesetting with Musescore 2.x back in the day could be of use to you. I was pretty much blown away by the piece when I first heard Feeney's recording; it was so much more striking and expressive than anything I'd heard by Dragonetti and I still really think he wanted to do something really special with this one. The thundering opening, the foreboding rumbling at 3:50, the majesty at 10:24 and the sudden calamity at 12:36 with the very creatively orchestrated Andantino that follows. It is indeed not a concerto; the only designation in Dragonetti's hand is that it's a solo "a tutta orchestra" as opposed to several other, likely earlier pieces which are labeled concertos and follow the three movement structure. So I apologize for naming the work page "concerto". In my typeset, I use the slightly less wrong title "concert piece". I had many unrealistic hopes that my typeset would inspire people to play the piece, but at least this video exposed more people to the piece. A good piano accompaniment might help, because the one made by Dragonetti's friend Mariotti is really not satisfying.

Considering wikipedia claims he is a minor composer and responsible for the Alberti bass... I'm pleasantly surprised. His keyboard music is full of charm and seems in the gallant style. Very fashionable for it's time and enjoyable to listen to or play

I wonder if by "style" he means in a vague sense in terms of structure? It sounds nothing like Bach. This is so obviously in a Post-Romantic idiom--especially in the slow movement. (???)

This is obviously an much older Recording! That string sound really dates it! I'd say 60s-70s... the trumpet sound is pretty good! OH Yes}}} There was that set by the Wallace Collection?? The work itself may date from GPT's Frankfurt time (1712-1721) he wrrote some momentous Pieces here! Including the mighty Brockes Passion (1716) and many impressive Oratorios!! Plenty of Cantatas too! Includes the French Cycle (1714/15) now appearing on CPO Label. This label a giant Flagship for GPT!! More coming too! ;-)) Viva Telemann!

This piece has more flesh on the bone than the E minor concerto. I ranked it in my notebook as excellent.

What's not to like: wit, jaunty elan de sprit, and incredibly challenging passagework. The saltando bowing adds to the smile on my face. Ever notice how Bazzini in the Dance of the goblins uses that ricochet bowing to add spice as Ernst does here. Of course, all those 19th virtuosos violinists were all inspiring (or frenemies in current terms) each other. thanks Sissel for making my day!

A bit excessive compared to Saito's and even Stokowski's, but wonderful nonetheless. I'm really surprised that someone did this in the 19th century. Thank you very much for sharing!

Great violin playing , and Ian Hobson whom I remember from Illinois Master's days, all jaunty as hell on the piano. I particularly love the finale. That melody on the G string, achieved while apreggiating all over the place, is just so beautiful. It sort of reminds me of the Mendelssohn vln cto cadenza when the orchestra joins the soloist. It's a great technique and I used to love playing this. Thanks Sissel.
