There’s nothing “going wrong” with autistic people, nor is it a “disorder” for many of us. It’s just different brain wiring. It’s the comorbidities that cause issues (like sensory overload), but not autism per se.

Do you know what happens to the cas9 after it has done the mutation? Great video and a great explanation. Even after 10 years, this is still a great animation and explanation!

Interesting but not sure u can make it thru the weird tingly Muzak in the background- maybe the producer doesn’t realize that kind of noise can be really hard to hear thru for those of us on the autism/adhd spectrum - who are a big audience for brain research. I’m going to try to get thru it. It looks interesting.

I think one thing we can glean from your input to the metronomes is that humans don't do 'random' very well, especially not in the context of a pre-existing rhythm. The metronomes appear to entrain you to some degree. Thank you for this fascinating video.

And if you guys dont know, CRISPR has been successfully used to treat HIV patients by inducing a cut in the patient's DNA and transplanting stem cells that only have one copy of mutated gene that is responsible for giving rise to CCR5 cell receptors that HIV use to replicate/multiply.

So I believe what you guys are doing is looking at a very small portion of what autism is and the side effects of the downsides of autism. You're going into all the negatives like how we can't process emotions. You are absolutely the furthest from correct here. We are oversensitive. We are hypersensitive to emotions and we are hypersensitive to situations. The reason why we tend to have difficulty reading emotions specifically early in age. Is because we focus on smaller circles of things. Our focus ring is smaller. Because we're stimulated more rapidly by more objects. More specifically you can recognize this in childhood by playing with the components of a toy rather than a toy itself. As the same goes for the parenting if done correctly the child feels safe. The child doesn't look up at my face because he is safe and he doesn't need to look to confirm that he knows this is a safe area. He leaves it open as almost a sense of trust in that area or direction. He doesn't need to process your emotions, you give him everything he needs. We only care about the results. Now as he gets older if he has the processing power of this gift I call autism. He's able to use it and to focus on numerous passions. From neuroscience,, to quantum physics, to physics, to cars, to art, to programming. And then on top of it becomes the top of his industry. Becoming a trainer for the most successful unions in the country. All because I'm overly passionate about every single thing I do. Autism is a gift. It takes us longer to see the big picture sometimes because we're stuck focused on the nuances of the intricacies of everything that can and will go wrong. We're also so worried about how we'll come off to others and how others will perceive us for what we know or how we act. A lot of our life we spend masking just so we can try to fit in. We will put on different personas just to kind of make characters that people will like. But then they like the characters. And then sometimes we're able to mold that character into the agenda that we have as a human being and we end up successful like myself. Now I say successful not because I'm like some millionaire or something. I'm a happy father of three. I have a good family and yes I have sensitivities. But you would never know that, you would see me as a hard, but fun loving construction worker that benefits every person who works with him, because that's what I do for a living. I build my business purely off integrity and knowledge. Being able to live the characters is an exploration of your human and it's sort of fun. But then also being able to dive deep into your passions and be accepted that you get excited and talk loudly about the things you're passionate about. You're diagnosing this as all of the flaws that it has. Perhaps we should be diagnosing it for all of the positives that it has. Such as the insane memory that I'm gifted. Or my incredible pattern recognition skills. I think the people are too focused on these small circles or their brains are just aren't able to zoom out to the big picture. They weren't given the horsepower but if we focus on the positives maybe we can get the people adapted to utilize the positives in a way that they can overpower the shortcomings.

A Note on Resting States, Resting Brains, and Meditative States A resting state, or ‘somatic rest’, would seem to correspond with a brain at rest or ‘neurologic’ rest, but by definition, somatic and neurologic rest are entirely different things. A resting ‘state’ or somatic rest represents the inactivity of the covert striatal musculature due to the application of resting protocols (continual avoidance of perseverative thought represented by rumination, worry, and distraction). Resting states also are affective states, as they elicit opioid activity in the brain. Resting states in turn may occur in tandem with all levels of non-perseverative thought that are passive or active, from just passively ‘being in the moment’ or being mindful, to actively engaging in complex and meaningful cognitive behavior. The latter cognitive behavior is also additionally affective in nature due to its elicitation of dopaminergic activity, and resulting opioid-dopamine interaction results in a perceived state of ‘bliss’ or ‘flow’. On the other hand, a resting ‘brain’, neurologic rest, or the so-called ‘default mode network’ is a specific type of neural processing that occurs when the mind is in a ‘passive’ state, or in other words, is presented with no or very limited cognitive demands. This results in ‘mind wandering’ that can segue into non-perseverative (creative thought) or perseverative thought (rumination, worry). A resting brain is due to a level of demand, not a kind of demand, as in somatic rest, and the latter may encompass different levels of demand or cognitive states with the same affective outcomes. In other words, affect is not dependent upon neurologic resting states, or the default mode network, as the affective outcomes of meditation are commonly replicated in cognitively active behaviors that are concomitant with somatic rest. It is remarkable that in the literature of meditation, the neurophysiology of rest is not defined, with a similar neglect to how neuro-muscular activity is actively shaped by experience or learning, and how it in turn modulates affect. The importance of meditation is very real, and the meditative community is understandably averse to equating it with rest since it makes meditation less ‘special’ or less marketable. But that is my argument nonetheless, which in the end provides a better advocacy of meditation by denying that meditation elicits a unique physiological process or state, which like the concept of ‘phlogiston’, or the imaginary element that enabled fire, impedes rather than furthers scientific inquiry. From ‘the book of rest, the odd psychology of doing nothing’ by ajmarr on scribd
