Hey Phil! Just wondering if you sell/trade any of your agates. I'm mainly looking for whole nodules for lapidary/cutting. If not then that's totally fine! Keep on hunting brother!

You find such big ones here! I've only managed to get to Birdlings Flat, the agates there are tiny bits of chalcedony but some have interesting waterlines. They're jelly beans in comparison, I need to get out and explore more!

I hunted on the Rangitata last November but only found some fragments of agate. I would love to join you one day as there are very few places I can get onto the river with my little car. When I was there the seagulls were nesting and didn't like me being there at all. They did chase me towards an agate so that was nice of them :D Most of my Rangitata agates came from the Agate Orphanage :)

@philfromcave11 ай бұрын
The Rangitata river is probably the best place locally. It takes a lot of time and patience to get going. Because you could be searching over the riverbed all day and not find anything. So you just have to be persistent and keep going and once you find a few, you start to know what to look for. But even if you dont find any agates straight away there are still lots of really cool, interesting and colourful stones to collect. So yeah the Rangitata river or the beach anywhere between the Rangitata river and birdlings flat will have agates. Its a really cool hobby that can be really rewarding so good luck and hope you find some cool rocks 😁👍

@@philfromcave So cool! I am also a huge fan of stone hunting. I would like to connect with you on some other social media so we can stay in touch. Curently I am traveling arround NZ and definitely wont be able to take all the collected aggates with me back home. It would be nice if I could give them away to some agate collector just like you :) I have agates from Britlings flat, Wakanui beach, Mt Somers and only one agate from Rangitata hehe. I saw you are a profesional on Rangitata and would love to ask you for an advice about the spot haha cuz this river is freaking hugeeee. Today I was at Geraldine arundel bridge.
