Back in the early 2000's I fell for Jessica Alba HARD, and I DO MEAN HARD, so I just bought 'Meet Bill'. Thank you for reminding me about that film. The best looking blu-ray I have, most reference quality is in fact 1080i not 1080p. Speaking of imports, it's the Nature series 'Africa' and I got the dutch blu-ray because it has exclusive extra features. Absolutely stunning visuals (in 1080i). I mentioned to you in your previous video where you spoke about dvd's you want on blu-ray, that Germany, France and Asia all have blu-ray's for 'A Good Year'. I also opted the German disc too. Made and showed a nice US style replacement sleeve. Yeah that one has a German rating of '0', so suitable for zero people?!? P.S. The uncut blu-ray of 'Die Hard 4' is now available in the US, but it wasn't until the series came out in the set of all five films with the large Nakatomi Plaza plastic replica included. I bought that set with the Building replica just for the unrated cut, and posted gave the building to a friend, then, of course, a stand alone release of the unrated cut of part 4 was put out. The 'Die Hard' series is another one I've made nice matching individual sleeves for. I dislike the multi-pack packaging.

So it's kind of funny.... prior to DVD, I had a lot of VHS tapes in my late teens and early 20's, some went back to my childhood days.... I started collecting DVD's probably in 2002, 0r 2003, kind of when they really started to catch on (I know they have been around since like 1996 or 1997 and I had a couple then, but I didn't have my own DVD player and could only watch them at my dads house as he had a DVD player). Once I got my first DVD player around 2002, I started replacing my movies on VHS on DVD as the movies became available... I now regret getting rid of my VHS collection with the exception of a very select few (thankfully my dad still has his VHS collection and there was some overlap).... I started doing the same with Blu-rays and purged a lot of my DVD's with plans to replace them once the blu-ray released, regret some that too. Some of my older DVD's look awful, but I have kept them because Blu-rays for those movies have not become available yet and who knows if they ever will. I have bought some used DVD's in recent years to replace movies on DVD I purged because, again, they have not released on blu-ray yet... or I have bought them through Warner Archive, which will press a DVD (and some blu-ray) upon ordering.... or at least that is what they used to do.... and they are decently priced. As far as boutique labels go, I have always been a fan of Criterion for a long time... and the last few years Kino and Shout Factory have had some great releases.... I have a few Arrow releases, there are more I want, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I only have one Vinegar Syndrome release, though there are a couple others I want to get. I have not gotten any Second Sight because I do not have an all-region player, I really wanted to get their release of Dawn of the Dead, but my old Anchor Bay DVD set of that has a beautiful transfer and my blu-ray player upconverts the image already and it contains most of the same special features and all the different cuts/edits of the film, so it was not a priority. I also want to get their release of the original version of The Hitcher as it's the first time it will be released on Blu-ray and they have completely gone through and restored the picture for the release. But when it comes to boutique releases, I just weigh it against if I already have the movie or not and if I do, do I feel the need to double dip or replace it. A lot of the times for me it will depend on if the picture transfer has been restored or not. Other times it's if it's one of my favorite movies, if so, I am going to want the best quality version and release of said movie.... And though I have not dipped my toes fully into the 4K realm yet simply because I do not have a 4K Player or TV yet... I have few that I got that have both the 4K and blu-ray discs in them so whenever I do upgrade, I won't have to get those. Lately I have been trying to limit my collecting to buying older movies that are hard to find now or might be out of print or I purged and never replaced or movies I can't live without.

Underworld 5 not great I unapologetically love them all. Dial of Destiny felt like a weird fan fiction or a bad tv movie I wish I didn’t watch it. I fell off the Fast movies after the 1st one but Tokyo Drift kind of works and only have it because I found the HD DVD. Haven’t really been into the X-men movies, the 1st was great at the time because we didn’t have many super hero movies but haven’t revisited it often. Alien & Aliens are the best, Prometheus glad you do but they movie not my jam. Loved Predator 1&2 was very apprehensive thinking it was going to be another girl boss film my kid wanted to see it I enjoyed it even though it has some bothersome parts. Every movie franchise has its best and worst I surprisingly enough love Jason Takes Manhattan being my 2nd favorite after the 1st one. (Rant) I know reboots and sequels & franchise movies aren’t going anywhere I want more original movies. One of the best things Walt Disney did was turn to classic literature for those animated films, with more books than movies I’d assume it could be an infinite source of ideas yet Mad Max (without Max) is in theaters right now. How many more crappy sequels from 30+ year old movies are we going to get?

as much as I think Underworld 5 is bad, I will watch anything with Kate Beckensale as Seline haha. I do love her look at the end too with her new look. Tokyo Drift is top 2 Fast movies for me. all the others are hit or miss. Furious 7 gets me cause of the ending, makes me cry everyone haha X-Men.. bro Ive never been a big XMen fan either lol I maybe like 3 out of the 10 movies they did haha I just needed a 5th movie for my list hahaha I know a lot of people don't like Prometheus, I totally respect that, I personal love it, unapologetically lol I also think James Camerons Aliens is a little overrated, I like it, but its not my top 2, top 3 for sure. You know some people in the comments have mentioned Jason 5 & I need to give that a rewatch. Ive never been a Hugh Friday the 13th fan, they're ok. I have the boxset on DVD & literly use it as a paperweight for my background lights lol. I need to watch marathon them soon. I totally agree with you about more original films. I almost completely stopped going to the theaters cause there's nothing good anymore. I saw Furious, meh. As much as it's getting ripped apart after Cannes, im really interested in seeing Coppola's new film Megalopolis, even if it sucks, just to see something new & original.

I need to revisit X2. Isn’t the whole X-men franchise all over the place & inconsistent? It’s not my favorite franchise lol I only like maybe 2 out of all the movies. I was trying to find 5 movies for this list, X-men was a stretch I pulled last minute. I really don’t care about this franchise at all to debate about its merits 😂

I think any film thats a raunchy comedy (By todays standards) or has a theme thats not PC in 2024 will sadly have a high chance of being hard to aquire on physical media going forward.

I’m not sure I’d do it again any time soon but the most I’ve paid for a single release is £70 for the BFI Flipside release of Joanna after discovering the label and buying every release thus far except this little known gem. At the time it seemed a bit over indulgent but the film is such a delight and it know fills that hole on the shelf amongst all its friends and family … … plus it goes without saying if you’ve not seen any of the films on the label then go check them out as there are some incredible films and true unsung gems on the list.

I’ve never heard of BFI Flipside but will definitely look into them! Thanks for the recommendation!

@@thelastmoviestanding They’ve released 47 films/documentaries/short film collections to date including the aforementioned Joanna alongside such gems as I Start Counting, The Appointment, Deep End, Psychomania, Symptoms, Man of Violence, The Bed Sitting Room and Full Circle and #48 due out in July with Remembrance from 1982 with Timothy Spall, John Altman and the legendary Gary Oldman in his first screen role. Each release comes with fascinating extras including new interviews, commentaries and various short films themed around each release (The latter, especially, is a fascinating addition that adds context to each film plus tosses in some quaint old short films and TV clips)

The 'Crank 2' Lionsgate blu-ray has playback issues too. Meaning it does not without using a USB stick because the players need the extra support or something to get them to even load. My UK blu-ray won't even make it as far as the disc menu, and I've seen that the US disc has the exact same issue. I just got the Australian blu-ray because as it's a different company edition, Sony, it does not have that loading/playback issue at all. The "burned in" subtitles for Spanish spoken parts are not "burned in", which is a real shame, but that's another natter.

X-Men Origins Wolverine is technically the 4th, making First Class the 5th. I would argue, First Class revitalized the franchise.

I totally forgot about X-men Origins Wolverine 🤦🏼‍♂️, does anyone count that as a real movie? 😂 that movie was so bad haha. Either way I wouldn’t have counted it as a stand alone film. But you are right I totally forgot about it

Call me "crazy", but I liked the fourth 'Fast and Furious' a lot, because the tone got noticeably serious, but in a good way (unlike 'Man of Steel' which I hated with a passion.) That fourth entry stands out too me, in a good way, although I think now it's just become too ridiculous for it's own good. YES! I too REALLY like 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' A LOT. REALLY well executed action set-pieces. Some of the best in recent years. (Although I did NOT like hearing Bengi say "my bad" in the amazing opening sequence. Purely because Simon Pegg's British, and that's an Americanism, and bad english, actually not English. I mean, that's the script, I get it, but, what's wrong with hearing English people speaking English? He should have said "my fault"). It's "controversial" for you don't like part 3? I don't see how. That's your opinion. 😄 Horror's not my thing at all, so I've only seen the first 'Nightmare On Elmstreet' film and that was when I was too young, and the only 'Friday' ilm I've seen is the one with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. I never got past 'Scream 3' 'The Rogue Cut' of 'Days of Future Past' is the only superior cut, I hear. I like 'Predator 2', saw it back in 1990 and had no issues with it, actually, I liked it BECAUSE it was different. I've only seen the first 20 minutes of 'Prey' but I liked what I saw and should probably go back to it, I honestly don't watch films so much these days, as friends talking about that and just that, has put me off.
