Какая мерзость! УКРАЛИ музыку, УКРАЛИ танец, УКРАЛИ благородство и радуются воровству. Благородство и носители этикета Франции, что же вы позволяете топтать память короля, танец и композитора Люлли! Если я буду подобное смотреть, то стану подобной - то есть МЕРЗАСТЬЮ! Во Франции уже кино нет, оперы уже нет, спектаклей нет! 😢Как печально! А ведь именно Франция была носительницей красоты и искусства. Великие носители красивого и благородного - ВЫ ГДЕ!? Мы ждём вас! What an absolute load! Touching the walls of dogma? Oh, gurl. These grim visuals are in such laughable contrast to the effervescent music, but no doubt it will all come clear with your illuminating Director’s Notes. Give it a rest, Mary. How about you let this this beautiful work about renewal and forgiveness live, and leave the weird story you made up in your bedroom at home?

What a strange project. An atonal semi-biography of a Romantic composer quoting his own work and also adapting the sketch of his incomplete last opera. Weird. I would have simply created a libretto inspired by his ideas and made an original opera instead.

The full cycle of this production was recently uploaded on KZbin for 2 weeks. It was the best production I have ever seen. The sets and costumes were absolutely amazing - and the use of fire phenomenal !!! The singers were not the ones above, but were brilliant.

Luciano Berio has done a wonderful, fantastic realisation and completion of this opera.

The best looking staging and costumed Rheingold I have ever seen, including the Bastille Opera a few years ago.

I saw Fanciulla del West in New York with Eva Maria Westbroek and Jonas Kaufmann. I loved every minute of it. I really adore Westbroek, although she needs to get her top register under better control.

I saw this production on DVD with the original cast; Altmeyer, Brocheler, Secunde, Keyes. I have mixed feelings. I love the idea of having the singers, scenery, orchestra, and audience so close. It creates a just-happening-now vibe. But the Valkyries seemed like a combination of alien insects and Nazi troopers. It seemed jarring, not enlightening. Secunde and Keyes were formerly great artists, but were dry and unsteady in that performance. Altmeyer (a justifiably famous Sieglinde) barely made it to end as Brunnhilde, and the same can be said for Brocheler, who was alternately shouting and laughable in his dismissal/killing of Hunding. I’d like to see a new performance of this production - besides this tiny teaser.

With immense joy I sang in the chorus of the world premiere in Amsterdam. Working with Simon McBurney was a great treat! Looking forward to seeing the production come back (most certainly in a new form) to Amsterdam next season!

III The Rhinemaidens lament the loss of their gold and encourage Siegfried to give them the ring, but he refuses. Siegfried tells Hagen and Gunther about his past life. Hagen gives him a potion that restores his memory; Siegfried relates how he found Brünnhilde, at which Hagen plunges his spear into his back. Siegfried dies. Gunther demands Siegfried’s ring, but Hagen kills him. Brünnhilde commands that Siegfried’s body be placed on a pyre; she seizes the ring and throws herself into the fire. The flames spread, setting fire to Valhalla and the entire world. The Rhine bursts its banks. Hagen attempts to seize the ring, but the Rhinemaidens drag him down to the depths and regain possession of the ring...

II Alberich spurs Hagen on to obtain Siegfried’s ring. Hagen summons the Gibichungs to welcome Gunther and his bride. Brünnhilde sees Siegfried at Gutrune’s side, realises that the ring that ‘Gunther’ took from her is on Siegfried’s hand and accuses him of betrayal. Siegfried denies this. Gunther, Hagen and Brünnhilde swear revenge: Hagen will murder Siegfried during a hunt...

I Gunther, king of the Gibichungs is still unmarried, as is his sister Gutrune. Hagen, Alberich’s son, counsels Gunther to take Brünnhilde to wife. Siegfried arrives and Hagen calls him over to them. Gutrune offers Siegfried a drink in welcome: it is a potion of forgetfulness. Gutrune, with whom Siegfried immediately falls in love, agrees to become his wife; Siegfried then consents to win Brünnhilde for Gunther. Waltraute tells Brünnhilde of Wotan’s powerlessness and asks her sister to renounce the ring and thus avert the downfall of the gods. Brünnhilde refuses to give up Siegfried’s pledge of love. Siegfried, disguised as Gunther, overpowers the desperate Brünnhilde...

Prelude The three Norns foresee the downfall of the gods as they weave the rope of fate. The rope breaks and they can no longer foretell the future. They return to Erda, their mother. Siegfried must go out into the wide world; he bids Brünnhilde farewell and gives her the ring as a pledge of his love...
