🤦♂What?! These are your complaints? Sorry,, Portland is a disgusting, trashy, Dangerous Dystopian Zone that is spilling over into lower Vancouver. Vancouver is only getting trashy etc.. because its next to Portland.

I agree with most of your list. I do love our gray skies tho...I am not a summer person. And I love how we are building up the water front area, its exciting to see. I have been here about twenty years now, I know the growth we have been experiencing is good, but I hate seeing all the green/treed areas being mowed down for apartments that are too expensive for most of our citizens to rent. I dont like how expensive the cost of living is getting, its pushing a lot of long time residence out, that needs to change. But over all, I love our little city and am excited to see what it becomes.

Yeah the waterfront is one of my fav places in Vancouver. It is so beautiful and is only going to get better in the next few years as they complete the revitalization project at terminal 1. I also do get sad when I watch them plow down trees and farm fields to make space for more housing or apartments. I know homes are needed but I miss those old tree groves and beautiful foliage.

I don’t know where you’re getting your info from but you’re way too trivial for me. And as far as the little racer cars, oh my God really.!!! if you’re considering moving to Vancouver, Washington, please omit this video move onto somebody else who knows what it’s really like there.

I lived in Tahoe for years, and experienced several fires. Mostly, we got smoke from fires as far as the Yosemite area. I've been in Reno for five years, and we've had some really bad fire years. It's very hot and dry here, and a spark can travel quickly. A few weeks ago, there was a fire in Verdi (about 10 miles West of Reno). We were stuck on the 80 for over two hours while fire fighters were trying to contain the area. Sadly, living on the West Coast means living with the threat of fires. Stay safe and thanks for the tips!

Thank you for your video😊 I've lived in LA for over 20 years and am planning to move to Vancouver WA... I went to Portland Oregon on a trip last year and it was great, but what's even better is that there is no state tax in WA. And WA it's close to Portland so I can easily shop around (no sales tax). I basically work remotely 95% of the time and I do in home almost all day. I want to feel nature and go for walks, but in LA the air is bad and the people are unfriendly not kindness. I find videos like this very helpful❤

I had an Uber rude one comment on another video of mine and they obviously missed the satire in the video. You are correct! WA has so many benefits and with Portland nearby you can take advantage of what they have to offer and the scoot back over the river. I do it all the time. Of course when you head this way let me know and I’ll get you my handy dandy relocation guide!

So you’re complaining about paying for parking in downtown Vancouver but it’s the same in Portland. You’re complaining about traffic and how it gets 20 minutes to get anywhere. The amount of homeless bothers you as well. So basically do not ever come to California because you need a reality check on how good you really have it. No one should really use your for their real estate needs because you do lot have a realistic good baseline.

I help people relocate to and from my area and as a transplant and someone who has lived in both Vancouver and Portland I give a more unique perspective on the area. California sounds like a wonderful place and I’m glad I’ll never live there but when people from there see this video they realize we have it better and give me a call. ✌🏻

I live in Portland but used to live in Vancouver. Smokey's Pizza, anyone? I used to commute from The 'Couve all the way to Gresham while I was going to MHCC in my first year back in '99-'00. Oofta. No way one could really do that easily with the traffic nowadays. Seeing the amount of WA plates going north on the Fremont or Glenn Jackson Bridge every day is proof that Vancouver needs Portland's resources. I work in the ad agency realm and have done a slew of Nike work. I know a lot of people that make the Vancouver to Nike trek every day. The 'Couve needs Portland and vice versa. That's the beauty of border cities. There's different options for: tax, school, housing, jobs etc. just over the river. Depending on what you're looking for, you've got more options than a large city positioned in the middle of a state. Pitting the cities against each other, I get it, ya gotta get those KZbin metrics. But in reality, it's the opposites of these cities that attract. Is one city better than the other? No. They're different and that really helps the region. Fun vid. I love this topic.

Thanks for watching… I help many people relocate to and from the area. I try and make them aware that the commute can be brutal in hopes the buy near where they work. But you are right, each city has its pros and its cons. I’ve live in both so I feel like I’ve gotten a feel of each not to mention as a transplant many years ago myself I have seen the evaluation of both so I share what I’ve seen and experienced both good and bad so people can choose the best place for their next chapter in life.

Well for perspective… this is the only building on the waterfront in downtown that has a home you can purchase. The rest are rentals where you could also spend time burning your hard earned money in a bathtub. There are other housing options in Vancouver that are not $900k and not on the waterfront. People pay more for exclusivity and amenities like living in beautiful places.

I've lived in The 'Couve for over 50 years and so far I cannot agree with any of your statements. If anyone reads this, ask someone who has lived here for more than a couple of years. She's got a very limited view.

That’s fabulous that you have lived here for 50 years… not everyone can say that but that also means you haven’t had a chance to experience somewhere different. Coming from the Midwest almost 10 years ago it was a huge change in lifestyle and culture out here on the west coast. I hear that same thing from people that relocate here from other parts of the United States. I’m also guessing you haven’t watched any of my other videos like when I explain why so many people like to retire here… 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for watching!

Good question! As far as I know right now they are working on the downtown area only. A lot of the waterfront down that way is residential and they also have to deal with the railroad as well.

Hi @raphaelsow9407 yes there is public transportation in Vancouver. Maybe not as much as other large cities. A lot of people like to use bicycle as a means of transportation here as well. No literail or train in Vancouver like there is in Portland. There is Clark College that is close to downtown Vancouver and Washington State University is on the north end of Vancouver by the Salmon Creek area. Main effect on us, was to quit STR and move to MTR (30-days or more). We've remained well booked, and STR just wasn't worth the added costs and aggravation. But by making life more difficult for Mom & Pop operations like ours, City of Vancouver loses out on the taxes and fees AirBnB collects and forwards to the city.

For someone who is LBTQIA, which would be safer in terms of laws and attitudes? We are “escaping TX” before next leg session and my 2 young adult children are LGBTQIA. I will be working remotely. They want Portland, I am more comfortable in Vancouver, but worry it’s more conservative there.

Hi Daisy! I believe the links you are looking for are in the description. As for which city in your situation I know the person that runs Vancouver Pride and they are lovely. They also own the Dandelion Tea house in Downtown Vancouver so go check it out! Honestly I think you will find more trouble as a whole not just LGBTQIA trouble in Oregon. The law enforcement in Portland is pretty crappy. Vancouver is more conservative than Portland yes but Portland is so liberal they do nothing so I would worry more about being in Portland. Also if your kids want to visit you can get from DT Vancouver to DT PDX in maybe 15 mins so it’s not far plus as a remote worker you will benefit from the taxes which your kids even if they are adults may still not completely understand the affect taxes have on income.
