This guy is being very careful.....best not to thrash a cold old V8 engine....would take some time to warm these cars up.

The Formula Blue VK looks the best, but the VN would be faster and better......but like he said, comparing these cars to modern sports cars is like chalk and cheese.....a Hybrid Camry could drag these off.....I think both these need an engine compression test and tune.....they make a lot of noise but dont go anywhere....need to be tuned to get their beans back!

Also Bathurst 87 yearbook 1st Edition was a chapter on how the cheating was done and how upset Perkins and Grice were . All the other Holden drivers too , but they could not protest in fear of losing the support they were getting. Ford had a policy with BMW Germany not to protest.

At this time I saw a supposed V8 Torana at the Front of a Garage on Concord Road Sydney. It was distinguishable as it had two Petrol Caps on the rear Pillars. So this may have been an enterprising Privateer who fitted a bigger Tank? It was Yellow and I think I saw an Orange one as well.

I recall Australian Muscle Car's article on this model,and apparently the difference between the E37 and E38 motor was the camshaft. E37 for allround road driving, E38 for racing use,notwithstanding E38's being road registered. It was series production racing then,and Group C a couple of years later. Thanks for the upload 😁👍

Most of these comments are way off the mark about those torana's. I might be able to find the book I have one day, but one of the problems the v8 caused was the door's opening a gap down the windscreen pillar of about 2 inches during cornering in race conditions, which was rectified by the introduction of the LH.
