Hi Ben I am in the process of restoring the exact same vise. I took some photos before dismantling it and one of them shows a small spring between the brass half shells and the stationary jaw where you have fitted a nut

Just bought one of these for £10! Mine doesn’t say Record on it, just the ‘36’. It is identical to one on a website for £1060, (new). Mine has a small badge in the casting with what looks like the letter R in the middle of it. More research need for me. Great result with your vice. Kind regards from 🏴.

That's awesome , but unfortunately axles won't last for long , and the transmission , transfer case if it's still being in prado's.

No, 1KZ-T with 3” mandrel bent stainless exhaust and the fuel turned up a bit on the mechanical fuel pump.
