Why do we only measure the gap at the top and sides of the door? A door with a significant gap at the bottom would not be compliant surely?

This is my feedback on fitting fire doors recently 1) Fire inspector instructs land lady to fit 6 new fire doors (ignores far more pressing issue of refugees drowning in the channel, ie utterly non wholistic approach to human well being) 2) 3 of the existing doors are actually already fire doors be it old ones, on questioning I discover these can actually be upgraded with better hinges and strips but new fire doors have already been purchased , all 6 old doors go to the tip despite attempts to recycle, no proper recycling centre in old fashion style in a town of 60,000 people whereby resources are reallocated, doors could have been turned into work benches, forests continue to disappear because of human stupidity, negligence and overly demanding bureaucracy. 4) Nearly all retro fitting fire doors will need trimming down thus losing the fire door labels, would be much more sensible if they came in a pack that were then stuck on top of the door once full installation has taken place. 5) Old buildings have uneven floors and door frames making the whole process very time consuming and expensive, on top of that the new fire doors were fractionally wider hence the door stops all had to come off and then be refitted, redecorated. 6 ) Most fires start in kitchens , would seem like better use of resources to concentrate prevention in this area, smoke and heat detectors, extinguishers, stickers cautioning against cooking chips on naked gas flame etc. 7) Externally on low rise buildings there should be "Fire bricks" ie a brick with an eyelet or bar through it that occupants could attach rock climbing rope to and escape to safety. 8) For a really good finish I always hold back on installing the 'supply screws' until the last moment, use regular screws until you are happy with correct installation as it is often the case the door will need to come on and off several times for adjustment thus potentially damaging the finished screws that seem to have a softer composition than regular screws, is my experience. Thanks for uploading your video, very useful.

1:08 Yes, that's called the Hierarchy of Control. For the flexible hoses, ensure that they are antistatic. Wood dust is combustible and explosive. I've been in LEV and Air Pollution Control for >25 years.

Teachers always used to say don't stand round the fire door you're blocking it. I mean if there was a fire you'd be straight out it anyhow.

Good advise guys! don't forget the explosion risk from the LEV system and that it needs to be DSEAR compliant.

Hi Cosmin, sorry this message was placed in a SPAM folder. We recommend you check the certificate and data sheet for the door. It should advise whether a 4mm gap is allowable under the certification.

I remember Sophie, I worked with her for a short time, such a lovely person and really creative, I remember seeing her drawings. I often think of her and the impact her death on her family and friends. Obviously a very caring and courageous person. ❤️

Great Video Hanna-BRE at last public information about the "Real Silent Killer" in a Fire incident a fact known but often overlooked. So the risk has been Identified the toxic smoke, this now needs to be managed. Full information on Services and systems by request. As a Footnote Historically from Lakanal House to recent events and indeed every Fire Incident the contents of the Smoke is the proven killer.

A poor example here showing a fire door with a letter box and vent grill. Whilst fire rated letter boxes and grills are available this isn't even mentioned in this video and yet this a common problem in poorly managed buildings where uneducated people compromise a fire door by making ill informed modifications. Be warned!

Thank you for this, perhaps our contractors at Bacton Tower Block London NW5 would observe that cutting wood and board in tenants flats is not acceptable, apart from the dust issues on not covering belongings or taking precautions when tenants are present that they should vacuum the mess they leave. Skin conditions are noted.
