I saw them many times in the 70's when Gypie Mayo was on guitar. Do you remember when Brilleaux used to wear that dirty white suit that looked like he'd been wearing it after doing a days work in the garage ?! They were a fantastic band - I loved them. I remember a comment left by someone on You Tube - he said he went to see Status Quo in a pub !! and Dr Feelgood were the support band - the guy said he couldn't remember much about the Quo but he never forgot Dr Feelgood once he saw them ! I thought that was a great comment.

Firstly, thank you for watching. Second, I take your point and, to a degree, agree with you - and as a former lecturer I suppose it's my default mode. So apologies if you feel misled or disappointed. That said, the concept of a music reaction on KZbin only being something you don't know is a bit limiting, and something I wanted to do is broaden that concept, in as much as it is possible to react to something that you do know, or at least remember. Also, I'm fairly new to KZbin and, with my kind of background and training, I don't tend to react, especially to things I don't know. Even for things I do know, I need to do my research and look at the latest data. I also feel a little unsure about the values of my opinions - again I'm more data driven than opinion driven - in all areas. I'm just someone who likes music - I'm not a musicologist

I agree with you that they were a fun band, probably most evident in their videos and the often upbeat tunes, but this was cleverly contrasted with highly political and very deep lyrics (songs like Flag Day, Sheep, Freedom, and Me and the Farmer). Other songs of their own that I think have similar sentiments to Caravan of Love are Think for a Minute, Lean on Me, and their cover of He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother. They were a great band and a big feature of my teenage years. I would love to have seen them on the tour where they gave The Proclaimers their first big break by having them as support. Two bans similar in a lot of ways - not least the politics and love of football. Both bands also fiercely original and like nothing else around at that time. I always remember the liner notes ending with the phrase "Take Jesus, Take Marx, Take Hope". I have to admit, as a teenager that went totally over my head. Oasis? Pfft, I'd rather see a Housemartins reunion... with The Proclaimers again! It would be like the Go! Discs equivalent of Dance Craze... a bit of a dated reference?
@BritishDadReacts-ui4jx
@BritishDadReacts-ui4jx 11 күн бұрын
Thank you, first for watching and secondly for sharing that info. I agree 100% and they were a very political band in many ways, and that was part of their appeal to me - as it still is. I never got to see them live unfortunately, and with the Proclaimers - wow, that would have been something. I did a review of a Proclaimers song a little while ago - Throw the R Away, another deep and political song. Songs with a meaning do appeal to me, maybe it's background not sure. I also recently covered a Style Council song and have one coming up by Editors for that reason. Go! is a bit of a dated reference for me, or maybe I just missed it at the time 😉

Your analyses are cogent and interesting.
