Thanks But I've gotta ask did you use black? Like straight out of the tube?
@oldmasterpaintings19 күн бұрын
Yes, I used Ivory Black but mixed it with Burnt Umber or/and Van Dyck Brown, to get a warmer tone.
@lindabay149120 күн бұрын
This is beautiful. The underpainting looks blue. Is there blue in the paint, or is it the lighting?
@oldmasterpaintings19 күн бұрын
The bluish tone comes from Ivory Black, mixed with white. There is no additional blue in it.

This one really captured that Rembrandt magic, it's very hard to do an old masters style painting and not have it come out looking academic and flat; this one had the quality and glow that Rembrandt was known for.

Caravaggio was a revolutionary figure in the history of Western art. His paintings, with their dramatic chiaroscuro and intense realism, challenged the prevailing artistic conventions of his time. A master of light and shadow, Caravaggio used his technique to create a sense of immediacy and drama. His subjects, often ordinary people and biblical figures, were portrayed with a raw honesty that was unprecedented in Italian Renaissance painting. His work often explored themes of violence, suffering, and redemption, revealing a deep understanding of the human condition. Despite his immense talent and influence, Caravaggio's life was marked by controversy and scandal. His rebellious nature and violent temper often landed him in trouble with the law. Nevertheless, his legacy endures, and his paintings continue to captivate and inspire viewers centuries later. Caravaggio was a true visionary, whose work continues to shape the course of art history.

I "copied" Dali's Crucifixion in watercolor can you believe ⁉️ Made detailed sketch and then layered the paint on. One of my first. I'm strictly a beginner and watercolor was the only thing I had. Of course, there were no facial details in that painting. Took me at least two months..

Hi, very impressive your work. What is the name of the technique you are using for painting? I will like to know, thanks.
@oldmasterpaintings3 ай бұрын
The technique is called 'grisaille'. That means a monochrome, mostly greyish underpainting followed by colour.

@@oldmasterpaintings I’m sorry for asking question often.🥹 Is the oil used in the oil ground kremer linseed varnish (73100)? or if you make and use linseed varnish your self, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me what the recipe is.
