I once played this in a 17th century very acoustic church, and in the rehearsals the conductor had told us to play as loud and brutish as we could. The rehearsals were in our usual hall, with quite dry acoustics. I remember how we looked ar eachother before and collectively decided to just go for it. The low B flat seemed to never end.

The real question is what sort of reed making equipment is needed or can I just use my contra setup? $50,000 instrument powered by $1.00 worth of bamboo.

you can play contraforte with a normal contra reed. with an adaptor (which you get for free). it sound like a normal contra on steroids with a normal contra reed.

Bitte nicht wie hier mit BassSaxophon, da gehört ein Fagott in den Solistenpart, so wie vom Komponist gedacht. sorry, aber hier hat Benjamin Blümchen wohl Blähungen..😅

Herr Seegers was a wonderful timpanist. I heard him many times... he could deliver one hell of a thwack, or a gentle mumble... I don't know what the new guy is like, I am sure he is very good. The Berlin Phil is one of the very few orchestras in the world that actually get to choose who they will accept.

Did the conductor actually want that?? LOL🤣Beastly!

See the score! It is meant to imitate the hiss of a tiger. It's a solo ff of the contrabasson...

It is the beasts in the field. You usually don't rehearse in the church and the conductor usually forgets to temper it for the right acoustics.

He thinks the accuracy pitch of timpani is so important for music. That timpani have functions for regulating minute pitch by hands, so he makes his hands free as possible to be able to use that functions whenever he needs. One of the reason of his playing one -handed roll on timpani is probably for using regulator with playing roll.
