Saw all these iterations of the 33 with my own eyes at Alfa Romeo Museum in Milan just a couple months ago. Even got myself a tiny, 1:32 scale model of the final version on the way out at the gift shop. What a stunning beauty, what a glorious period in Alfa's history! I highly recommend the visit to the museum - you will easily spend 3 - 4 hours there, like I did 😊

Could have been a great car line. Its sad that the 6's styling couldnt match that of the BMW and Mercedes midrange cars, nor even the charm of the Fiat 130. And engine development didnt match the pace of those german rivals.

Would you do videos about more modern Lancias like Lybra or third gen Delta? I know people that think that Lancia ended on a rally but It isn't true for me and cars like Lybra, third gen Delta or even Musa seems to be pretty underrated.
@Matteo_Licata8 күн бұрын
I was never against doing videos on a specific vehicle. My choices were primarily dictated by a vehicle's availability (or lack thereof) and its owner's willingness to dedicate me a couple of hours.

I’m late to this video, but I wonder what you, as a designer, feel about the Series 3 models whose plastic bits, like the spoiler and bumpers, have been painted body color. Now that prices for Series 4 models in the US are taking off, I’m setting my sites on a Series 3.
@Matteo_Licata12 күн бұрын
In my view, painting the Series 3's bumpers and spoiler doesn't improve the car's appearance all that much. They're still way too chunky. Here in Europe at the time there was a Zender bodykit with different bumpers and spoiler that looks rather good. But still, any Spider looks magnificent compared to what goes on the roads today, so you can't go wrong!

@Matteo_Licata27 күн бұрын
Cool! Yeah, the Giulietta was pretty successful for Alfa Romeo in its time, yet now it seems to live in the shadow of the Alfetta that spawned it and the 75 that replaced it. That's the reason I wrote my book, actually!

What I don't understand is what happened with the in-line six. AFAIK, it was only used in the 2600 (Coupé, Spider and Berlina) for five-six years and then ditched. According to Wikipedia, only 11,000 of these cars were made, all bodies confounded. Alfa Romeo wouldn't have another 6 cylinder engine until the Busso V6 c. 1980. Why didn't they use the in-line 2600 engine in the late sixties and seventies? Why not a 2600 above the 2000 berlina? A similar story happens with the V8 of the Montreal, its engine was only used in this car. Less that 4000 were produced. One engine for 11,000 cars, another one for 4,000 cars. Little wonder that Alfa Romeo was broke by the eighties.

I had an Alfetta in the US, not so good on acceleration but very very good cornering, especially after some modifications, suspension and wheel/tires. Quirky interior controls, and RUST, very bad rust. A Milano followed, again great handling, sweet 2.5 engine, quirky switches. That was my last Alfa, I'd finally had enough after 30 years. Now I'm negotiating on a very rusty 1971 1750 GTV to restore, if I get it that will be my last.

i have a autobianchi like this and it showed the late 70´s autobianchi and the Y so well known as a lancia was in reality a autobianchi renamed , also have a litle and boxy DeTomaso with a 1.3L engine that was fast as hell when released ,all black with caqui seats and all that was considered luxury in the 80´s it had , autobianchi had some very interesting small cars in the 70´s and 60´s, but what some call forgoten or underrated is only old as the Bianchina that was a looked for car as it was the litle car fashion ,as it were well known cars by everybody who drove them and not only a few, i in reality i don´t understand why the makers of videos in reality know nothing about the brands they refer, as lot´s of important information about this so well known brands are not close to complete, i´m not the master of knowledge and my memory isn´t the same as i had when a young man so some things i writte here i would like someone to comfirm or explain in reality what hapened , in my city i had a autobianchi dealer in the 80´s that don´t remenber the years it started to sell the first Lancia Delta´s ,the 1300GT as an example as i have all deltas since the first GT or the HF later as i had a 90´s delta 1.6 i.e with a level of luxury very high the HF ,also a Turbo and Integrale, the funny thing is they used to arrive to my hands with engines all destroyd and some had one year and a half i normally substituted a wire in graphite conected at the gearbox to the centraline and they become new again with assembly it were what today is 15€ in the 80´s, to the 90´s 20€ and in early 2000´s 30€, so i only kept one of each or i would have a big stand saying" Lancia are us "and dozens of lancia´s from the 80´s and 90´s to sell, a guy in 97 told me that if i wanted is two year Dedra looking new i only had to paid him what today is 100€ but i was tired and told him to substitute this cable here (this with his mechanic by it´s side after telling him that there was nothing to do, as it´s engine was completely destroyd inside) and with tape atatched it to the compressed air release cable that shows inside if the car is at yellow, green or red comsuption wise like in late 80´s fiats or mid 80´s like the chroma and the tipo , i read in the bag of the part "rpm counter cutter"didn´t understand why it was called like this but i have all high-end models from this great brand my favorite the K coupé 2.0L turbo 24 valves, amazing nice car and handles perfect, the one i remenber the best was a car that nobody wanted had a 1.8 i.e. engine with top luxury that was called prima and fast as hell as it was a light car ,it seemed a delta with a litle strange trunk atatched to the back but it flighted with a 1.8 L engine

I bought two Alfa Romeo 33. My experience with this car is mainly positive. It was funny to drive and performing for that time period. The engine was excellent, unfortunately FIAT didn’t understand its growing capacities and discontinued it. I experienced just one issue affecting the car stability during breaking at high speed (over 160 km/h) that needed an increasing of control and prompt driver reaction. It was probably due to the weight balance.

I have a 74 spica and want to convert to side webbers but are the newer webbers better than the old ones they used on these cars? My spica is very temperamental and I don't know anybody at all who will work on them and I live in a big city. I mean one year it dies at idle but starts great, the next year it is very hard to even start, but once it does, it runs great with no stalling. I just want the consistency of a car that starts easy, and runs until you shut it off. But when I called even the best company in Seattle to ask if they could do the switch? the guy didn't know and said he would have to ask somebody else. I wish I could find a little old man who knew these cars in and out. But as the years go by, it gets more and more hard to find anybody even willing to work on them

@@Matteo_Licata dark green. Never looked at the paint name. Th first one was a silver grey 1.3s from late 80's ( maybe I still have some car papers). Then I bought a GTV6 to it. Then I had a dark blue 33. Do not know the year but bought it for Guilders or Euro. Some Opel Kadetts D in between. I bought an other GTV6. Then a Bordeaux red 33 deluxe with a fabric original green type name on it. It had a very nice interior. Went to Italy with it. Then an other GTV6 that I have to restore. Then the green 33 for €600. Cilinders heads have I let redone. In used condition but driveable. Stands still for 5 years already. So I have a 33, GTV6, Subaru Legacy 3.0r Spec B, Hyundai van, Maserati 4.24 and an Opel Kadett from 1940. And many parts for the GTV6. I keep the 33 for my son. The Subaru has the same amount of HP as the 4.24 but it is much more practical/usefull. I would like to have a Khamsin. Looks like the GTV6. I am busy now converting a St able into a workshop / garage for the cars. Is a lot of work. I think my GTV6 only was on the road for about 15 years. It is inside for 9 plus 15 years.
