The Gambles have storage unit and I'm quoting a family member "of 60% of what was at 309" the remaining salvageable stuff from the fire. Some gear and other things were given away after the insurance claim was settled, but for the most part the contents that was salvageable from the fire was put into storage. Hope this helps quell some fears.

I also did this comparison and agree analog summing makes about the least difference of anything you can do in terms of swapping analog processing for digital. On the other hand putting preamps on your 2 bus is a different story but far more important is analog eq and compression I think is where analog still has the biggest advantage.

another thing about the British console as well the gamble its modules / so i can take out the sections / i get the master section some of the channels maybe the power supplies get upgraded all by Jim Williams at audio upgrades then the soundcraft sounds like a warm SSL / because i got these consoles for so low spending 250 or so per channel to have them modded and upgraded it makes it viable now with the rock bottom prices now on pro audio consoles available , reason no one else wanted this thing is its like moving a grand piano it weighs close to 750 pounds its massive 90-s console lived inside the flight case mint condition sound craft sounds warm ,. :)

I have actually went this route. The only thing you can be doing to the audio in summing is either degrading the audio a bit, or with a different transformer darken or brighten up the sound. As far as stereo image goes, As we all know that all comes into play with where consoles started. Like one channel slightly bleeding into another channel or one channel is slightly off creating a natural phase but in a good way lol. The list goes on and on. The difference is so minute that even if it does make a difference, A really good engineer can achieve this sound in the box with plugins. To me it was a journey and I learned a lot. I do not use summing mixers anymore. I do use analog gear on the way in but mostly mix down in the box. Plugins are amazing. They literally made me sell of thousands of dollars worth of analog gear. I say this. Do what you think sounds best. Everyone's ears are different and some people can hear in different ways. I will say a tape machine changes everything but that's a whole other argument lol.

I really enjoyed this story, and the A/B of the tracks! I think there's a common shared experience that resonates about "that one original band" from back in the day that were so good but never got into the studio! It's a familiar theme that pokes me in the nostalgia! At the heart of it, I think it's why recording music it's so compelling, and probably why we do it. To capture performances for posterity and have an artifact to share, beyond the moment it was performed, to make something immortal. That's the best use of a favor! Thanks! Cheers!
