Yes, some discrimination exists but it's not all black and white. The Prime Minister and President are from the 4th and 5th castes respectively. It differs by region and Brahmins are not necessarily the dominant caste. In modern India the most powerful groups are the OBS or other backward castes which control most of the political power, usually the families with 2nd or 3rd generation businesses are from the 3rd caste. And in case of cities, the forward caste or1,2,3 caste are disadvantaged because the others get reservation/ affirmative action.

Hey dont blame my religion for this evil system. The highest authority of our religion our sacred texts like bhagavad gita and early vedas doesn't contain this evil thing. It was varna. Which was classifying people based on profession. But later it became too complex and hereditary from around 1000 bce. But bhagavad gita composed in 200 bce doesn't even mention of classifying people based on heredity of profession but based on karma.

The caste system was stated 5000 years ago in Bhagavad Gita not 1,500. What an ofc worker or student, layman or prejudice fellas know about core values of caste system? Caste system is a social structure to lead peaceful life in ancient India latter it became a tool for oppression. In olden days no schools, colleges,books companies , machinary...etc. to learn and to start any profession to lead life so only source is family i.e father, mother,he/her own caste people teach how to do work with what they know. Example bhrammans -learn how to perform puja, Carpenter caste - how to do carpenter work, similarly weaver, sieving,farmer,kings.....etc. every one divided to learn the thing not for discrimination how today lawyer, doctors, engineer,painter....etc. Example mostly painting easy for him who comes from painting family . Purity is one of big concept in Hinduism in any caste while performing puja they don't touch impur persons(like who not taken bath,who went outside, women who are in mensuration....etc.) Caste system worked effectively once to boost indian economy latter middle ages it became a tool for oppression and exploitation similar to European class system clergy, knights,king,slaves...etc. Now politicians using caste to divide people and to get majority vote share now caste survey is one of the tool to get majority.

A few inaccuracies there. The so called Aryans did not invade other populations. This has been disproven for some time now by archaeologists and historians. Also the caste system ( varna ) was not as solid before 2 invasions : Islamic and then British. Both conquering forces used caste to divide and conquer. Before these conquests, you could change caste if you had the required ability. A shudra could become Brahmin or Kshatryia etc. Many shudras became highly revered saints and Gurus . The polluting aspect was invented by conquerors as a means to divide society and thus control the population as it would prevent them from getting united and overthrow the foreign rulers.

British liked the system because they had the same system used to oppress people. It is called the class system.
