Correct title is "There's a Little Lane without a Turning (On the Way to Home Sweet Home)"; singer is Sam Ash, recorded 1915.

Vera Lynn is absolutely timeless. Of all the female voices I've heard sing, outside of opera that is, hers is the most beautifully haunting and I find myself feeling choked up just listening. We need more Vera Lynn's in this world.

Both sides of the record. Sure confused me till I figured it out by using the matrix numbers. Makes you wonder if it is the only one or if there were several.

@@helenabasquette7222 as a big fan of The Wall album and movie I am very familiar. It was the Wall album which made me recognize 2 Vera Lynn 78's years ago in a resale shop. One of those 78's is this one and another which will be uploaded at a later time.

For some reason it sounds duller than the original 1939 Bluebird release. I'm wondering if this was a dub, or could it be this video's recording has muddied it up?

Phil Harris had been a singer and bandleader since 1931. He was married to the actress and singer Alice Faye and they did a radio show together, like such other couples in which the man was a bandleader (Ozzie Nelson and Harriet Hilliard, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball). This song is actually a cover of one by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. ARA Records was actually a Communist front, as I noted in my comment about the flip side of this record.
@mgconlan
@mgconlan 25 күн бұрын
The ARA Records label was only in business two years, 1944-1946, and it was really secretly bankrolled by the Communist Party, U.S.A. Among its other artists were Hoagy Carmichael and Earl "Fatha" Hines. The company's CEO, Boris Morros, ultimately turned state's evidence and reported his own company to the FBI as a Communist front.

Raisin cookies > chocolate chip cookies - been like that for 30+ years for me and that hasn't changed. Phil Harris is one of the most epic singers/musicians of the early 20th century. The Rob Halford of the 1940s-1960s.

The information I provided here is straight off of the record label. I double checked it and the record and label match the uploaded song and information. So if there is an error, it would most likely have to be in the production from Edison. I will try to look in to it further and see if I can find anything.

So I listened to this song title and band on Internet Archive website and it seems to be a completely different song. It appears this Edison record has the wrong label. Now to check in to the flip side. Thank you for calling out your observation. Well done!

Old 73s went to 45s, 8 tracks, cassettes, CDs,, today, I get my music from KZbin. Now I’m a 73
