I have a 500i and am running hp2 at 36-38:1. And only used once so far but it was a really cold day and it seemed that whenever it idled for a bit it would start smoking. But once in revs it would be clean. Should I be worried about mix or anything or am I ok?

KZbin has once again proven the only important attribute to a review is how fast the gizmo is compared to the other gizmo. Who cares about living with said gizmo, how reliable it is, maintanance intervals and costs, parts availability, etc, fucking etc. Lame af.

I have both. I opened up the CS-590 muffler, advanced the spark, and added a CS-620P carb which was available cheaper than a replacement CS-590 carb. I like both saws, but the Husqvarna is not fun to start warm. I often have to hold the throttle at maximum while yanking the rope. I always try the standard starting procedure first, but it doesn't always work. I bought the Husqvarna because I thought the electronics would make it start and run easier. Not so.

How did work out?
@SteelologistАй бұрын
People all over KZbin should stop obsessing over 2-cycle chainsaw oils and embrace the fact that its properties cannot be compared to automotive oils. There is no film strength to speak of, there are no detergents to be concerned with, there are no winter or summer viscosity ratings. There is no oil pan, oil pump, blow-by gasses... there is really nothing there to discuss because all 2-cycle oils have but one duty. Lubricate the internals as you are on your way to the muffler and try to be as clean and efficient burning as you can in the process. The only thing that separates these oils is their ability to burn cleanly and leave no deposits behind at various temperature ranges. Off-road motorcycles or bikes designed to run races will do well running on Motul, HP2, Maxima, Bel-Ray and similar oils and string trimmers and chainsaws do not need them because they are not made for high speed races lasting for hours and hours week after week. So save the money on the oil and invest it in quality chain sharpeners, air filters, bar oil and similar necessities that every chainsaw requires.

When saws are making dust and not chips, sharpen the chain.
@The_Inca_Stargazer3 ай бұрын
Ive seen a huge difference in chains even using the same saw. I see that Husky even has an aftermarket bar. So hard to make a fair comparison even if the saws had the same HP. You'd have to use new air filters, new spark plugs, autotune or manually tune each saw to optimal conditions, use the same amount of downward pressure on both saws, use wood that was exactly the same with no knots, make about 10 cuts each and use an average, on and on...

Long story short, over the years I've accumulated more 2t oils than I can possibly use up in the next 5 years. For 2t's (saws, trimmers, blowers and generators) I've pretty much narrowed it down to hp2, saber, red armor and k2 in no particular order at 32-40:1. My question is regarding 4-mix. I've been sticking with motomix and/or hp ultra at 40-45:1 yes, I add additional hp ultra to the motomix. Do you see hp2, saber, red armor or k2 at 32-40:1 as a potential problem in 4-mix engines? Or suggest I stay with a separate hp ultra mix for them?

I have a ms261,bought it a year ago. I like your idea and might try it. What did you use to cut slots in muffler? Also does the ms261 have a spark arrestor? If so is it easily removed?
@Andyshine774 ай бұрын
They all have spark arrestors. It's located in the factory exhaust outlet. It's held in by one little screw. I used a small cutting disc on my rotary tool to cut the slots. I then carefully used a screwdriver and needle nose pliers to bend them outward.

There are way too many problems with these saws! They make great power but are not durable or reliable. The issue I'm seeing is leaking intake boots, cracked cases, and bad carbs. The 661 had numerous issues early on, but they've been rectified.

@AlfredWatson-b3i Main bearings, leaking intake boots, oil pumps, bad carbs. If you read my post, I said better than the 550-MK1. Those had like a 50% failure rate at one point. I've owned so many saws that I've lost count, all different makes and models. So I really don't know what you're getting at?
