You don't do backups. Does that mean you trust Revo 100%?
@comrade514
@comrade514 Ай бұрын
My thinking is that in normal climbing conditions, I trust the Revo as a single point of potential failure. Of course rope soloing differs from normal climbing conditions, and I would recommend using backups. I made the decision not to because most routes I rope soloed were below the grade I was normally climbing that season. In general, I 100% trust the Revo for belaying, and took calculated risks by not backing it up while rope soloing.

Scarry. If you grab the rope it will delay the action of protection device and you can burn your hands. Its not like you are belayed from bottom.

Salut!

Have you ever taken a rope solo fall? Also, how does the Revo compare to the GriGri?
@comrade514
@comrade514 3 жыл бұрын
I have taken a rope solo fall on the revo. It's a rush because it takes a bit longer to catch than a grigri. It's otherwise comparable to a grigri except the rope moves more smoothly through the revo than the grigri, leaving you to enjoy the climbing more and focus less on managing slack 👍👍👍

you use only the Revo? is it modiffied to catch faster? what type of anchor do you normally have?
@comrade514
@comrade514 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking friend, I use only the revo, not modified, but I only do climbs that I have done before, or that I think are within my abilities. I use a clove hitch on a steel carabiner to back up the revo if I don't feel very comfortable about the route.. For anchors I use trees preferably, or exposed big roots, or a downed log, if it is heavier than me by quite a bit. 👍👍👍

Could you please add some details ? -what was your height above the last clip when you jump of? - total length of your fall, when revo has catched you? Im useing a different technique but revo seems to be realy good one device for lead solo...

I'll add a description in the details. I was about 7 feet above the last clip when I came off. Probably fell about 14 feet before the Revo caught me. I definitely like the Revo for lead rope soloing, highly recommend 👍👍👍 Cool climbing videos you have, too. Your system seems very smooth. 👍

@@comrade514 It's really nice. Only downside is you need other devices to lower. But for the climbing and catching, it's the best! Actually, how do you lower with the Revo? There's no handle on it. I'm confused about that aspect.

@@Mdjagg it's kind of like a real touchy ATC is how I would describe it. I love the Revo for rope solo, but would use something else for regular belaying.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmfUeKGiZpt3m80 Yes sir, here's a fall on this system. I'd been climbing rope solo for about ten hours and my forearms had started cramping. Eventually they both cramped at the same time and I came off the rock. I did use backup devices and/or knots at first. Definitely would recommend it. I went to this bare bones system after thinking, even when someone is belaying you, the belay device is not backed up. If I were deep in the woods, or felt sketched out, I would use backups for sure. 👍👍👍

I see that when high clipping, you pull slack downwards. Is it because of the weigth of the spare rope? This is needed with the Grigri, but I thought that with the Revo, even when high on the pitch, you could easily pull upward like when you climb with a partner.
@comrade514
@comrade514 5 жыл бұрын
I started off with a Grigri, and maybe that's just a habit that stayed with me. Or, if I remember correctly, the weight of the slack rope combined with the rope running over my hand was giving me rope burns unless I moved very slowly and deliberately.

Thanks for sharing, How do you like this set up? Have you had any problems with the locking mechanism engaging with the weight of the slack rope on the device?
@comrade514
@comrade514 5 жыл бұрын
Above about 60 feet, the slack rope will start to run backwards through the device. At those heights I put a knot above a quick draw. The setup seems to work great. Thank you for watching
