finished my story fairly recent meeting the man himself. a absolute unique and great person. he talked for hours how he loves films and Harrington jackets.

First heard on the John Peel show in the early 80s. This song is more relevant now than ever. Such talent. Greetings from Hannover, Germany!

Where the fuck did he pick this song from? It's either a vision of a then distant future or an ancestral memory. Bleak genius with cracks in it for light.

First heard this in 1991 on 'Martin', the Factory Records retrospective after he died. I was 16. That and the other tracks opened my eyes to stuff other than chart, Dire Straits and Meatloaf! He's great live as well...

Me, too. Exactly. and it's not dated one bit in the last 32 years. I think it's one of my favourite ever songs.

Fascinating. I am perhaps the rare fan of the punk antichrists known as “Dire Straits” AND fan of the Factory/Hannett/Manc scene. Like you, I discovered JCC from the 1991 Factory Records “Martin” compilation. The bizarre thing,is that I arrived to this comment thread *just now* as I searched “Dire Straits, JCC”, spurred on by the early 80s Dire Straits “BBC Arena”documentary. At 44 mins in, Mark K reads a JCC-esque bit of his own poetry (while admitting that it is crap)…. I love ‘em both, so I don’t care about judgements. I’m ticked to discover that these seemingly insignificant crossed paths from another era exist at all.

Amazing 🤩 it was like he had a really important message that everyone totally missed… seems oddly relevant to today’s goings on 🤔 but no… it’s just coincidence, it’s just imagination, keep drinking and taking drugs… ignore his words. I’m sure the storm will blow away soon and everything will be nice and fluffy again 😄👍 #gobacktotheslumberfolks 🤩👍

Been awhile since anyone commented on this; I've been on YT looking and listening to literally thousands of different house mixes by so many well known and novice/casual DJ's, and this is FIYA!! I jumped up and moved my ass at the "Rain"" intro and didn't sit down the rest of the set: BTW, I'm 56yo and a HOUSE HEAD til I move on to the next. . .

Hard to believe how I (an oblivious consumer) never heard of this guy until now even though i was brought up with sex pistols and stranglers touring with ramones. This guy is the real deal . A punk poet if ever there was one and releasing as early as 1977. How much influence this guy must have had on musicians and song writers in punk scene. Damn, top of the pops and bbc had excuses not to expose this. Ah well I am enjoying this "new" material probly more now than i would have back then.

Brilliant find for you, lots of material of his for you to discover and enjoy. I've been listening to him since the early eighties and seen him several times live - such a funny sharp whited guy too ! In case you weren't aware you might enjoy his BBC broadcast on their Dessert Island Disc show which gives a great insight into his life : www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000701x
