Over 20 years ago I purchased a 50th anniversary submariner with the fat four bezel. It still has the stickers on it and is sitting in a safe all this time. I bought it to pass down to my son when he graduates from college. I have seen this watch selling for $40k for clean models. Almost 8x what I paid for it.

To be honest you really can’t tell the difference between a real good fake and the real thing these days. Even Omega’s management has been caught faking their watches. I won’t buy used luxury watches unless I can have them verified. Or only buy from a trusted authorized dealer. Good job and thanks for this very helpful video.

Quite interesting to hear about different scammer methods. Photos are often a big problem. On eBay there are also many sellers that take photos from angles that hide damage, for example. EBay will then say if a watch is used, you have to expect scratches… Age and damage are not always interdependent. A watch that is one year old and has been badly treated can look worse than a watch that’s 10 years old.

Thanks for this video. I bought one today from a pawnshop, has no box or papers. Got a receipt though with the serial number written on it, Was a little sceptical in not buying from an AD. After watching this I think my watch qualifies as an authentic (hopefully). Going to take it to an AD soon for verification of its authenticity. Will make a video of the watch soon.

On a positive note, anyone who loves the look of these watches but can't (or refuses to) afford one, can be assured that a replica these days will fool just about anyone walking by for 1/30th the price. But there is a special place in hell for scammers trying to sell replicas as originals for sure.
