We moved from NYC to St. Thomas USVI in 1974, I was 12 years old. I lived in Tutu apartments (Hidden Valley, Ras Valley) 1974-1982, bldg 15 apt 272. So many memories. I was there when the basketball court behind buildings18-19 was built. I played in the ceremonial first game. All the houses on the hill that you see now, where not there at the time. My friends and I use to go into the hillside, picking fruits, shooting lizards, with our homemade sling shots. We walked to Coki Point all the time (no car). I went to Wayne Aspinall HS (7th grade) There was a teacher there named Ms. Dehanes, she had to be 99 years old (seriously) and would walk around with her little cane saying, "dont walk on the oxygen (grass) I then went to Nazareth HS (8-10 grades) I My gyn teach was Mr. Putulski, (he played with the Bills in the 70's. I was living there when American Airlines plane crashed at the airport in '76, I have pictures, it was during carnival, I saw the smoke in the sky and I walked to the airport and took pictures. I remember the Man League (basketball league) I loved going to see the games and then catch a ride home. My father played for a time with Milo and the Kings. My dad was from St. Croix, he showed me how to garden, he loved it and so did I. It was a great time. I'm going to St. Thomas in a week and I'm going to tour my old stomping grounds. Today, I'm 60 years old, living a great life in USA. Even though I was not born in St. Thomas USVI, I consider it my home. Oh, and I have a beautiful garden here that I've dedicated to my Dad, he would have loved it!!! Thanks dad!

While my heart goes out to those affected in the US Virgin Islands, and while also I pray they are able to recover and return themselves to a better capacity, it still astounds me to no end how beautiful St. Thomas is, EVEN after a hurricane. I can't wait to visit and give them my tourism dollars.

It doesn't look like any damage there, is that right?
@RedroomStudios7 жыл бұрын
you must be blind... certainly there is damage. but compared to other islands that were almost completely wiped out it looks like they were very lucky with minimal damage on this section of St John.
@kayBTR7 жыл бұрын
RedroomStudios How can you be so mean to say I must be blind when you yourself say it looks like there is minimal damage. You are so rude. Good grief, is this how you speak to people who ask a genuine question out of interest in the truth of what happened to the people there?

The only reason I disliked this is because St. John is where I was born. It saddens me to see the entire island brown. It used to be a lush, dense tropical jungle until Irma. I hope they all stay safe during Maria and no more carnage destroys the Islands. Other than that thank you for posting this video and showing me my home.
