it is likely the presser foot lifter or presser foot screw plate. It controls the lifting mechanism for the presser foot, which allows you to raise or lower the foot to adjust the fabric as you sew,,thisplate helps in positioning the presser foot in the correct place and ensures smooth fabric feed through the machine

First, i am so sorry fo not seeing your comment earlier....For a standard scrunchie, the elastic length typically ranges from 8 to 10 inches when stretched, depending on the desired tightness and size. If you prefer a looser scrunchie, you may use 8 inches, while 10 inches works better for a snugger fit. It's also a good idea to adjust the elastic length based on the thickness of the fabric you're using, as thicker fabrics may require a longer elastic to maintain the scrunchie's shape.
