Wow, those ARE some tall ladders! Pretty moist for a Nevada mine, though there's those flooded ones near Tonopah....
@TomandJulieMineExploringКүн бұрын
@stevengill1736 Hi Steven. I think that's the longest free-standing ladder that I've climbed. You never know where a flooded working will turn up. Some of the wettest we've seen have been in Arizona. Thanks for watching!👍😊
@stevengill1736Күн бұрын
Next time I'm down there I'll see if I can bring up the video light you dropped. ;^[} Seriously, those wet mines made me nervous, not just because the walls could be crumbling, but because it could be so slippery a minor incline could be easy to slip on!
@TomandJulieMineExploringКүн бұрын
I'm sure the battery was smashed to pieces. It was fairly big about the size of a four inch length of a 2x4. I heard it crashing all the way down about 300 feet below where we were. This is a very slippery shaft with mud everywhere.
@stevengill1736Күн бұрын
How the heck did they get graffiti up on the roof of that 200' level you rappelled by? Looks like there's a great iron bacteria culture there too (6:20). Anywhere there's pyrite or marcasite and water, the iron and sulfur bacteria will grow - they're unique in that they oxidize sulfides and ferrous solutions for their energy. That's what you're seeing often when you come across that gelatinous orange stuff. Put some under a microscope and you'd see the filaments.
@TomandJulieMineExploringКүн бұрын
@@stevengill1736 Hi Steven. I have no idea how they put the graffiti up there. Maybe standing on an ore car? Thanks for the information on the culture growing there. We see some strange things growing in the old mines if they're damp enough.👍😁

Hey you guys, this is Steven, thought you might be interested in a news story about gold miners in South Africa that are living in very deep abandoned workings.... The authorities are now trying to get them out, but it's turning into a protest. Kind of sad, but amazing they're climbing in & out of shafts over 5000 feet by hand! Apparently there's hundreds in one mine ...hope you're doing well, healthy and happy....gonna be another intense winter for us.... cheers! It's called "trapped for gold: the dangers facing illegal gold miners in South Africa" NB: Man I hate to see burned workings - such a waste. What were they mining here, do you know?
@TomandJulieMineExploringКүн бұрын
Hi Steven. Thanks for the info on the South African mine story. I'm going to check that out. I know there are some very deep mines there. I hadn't heard of the illegal mining going on. We are both doing well. I hope you are, too!👍😊

What an adventurous team! I’ve always enjoyed watching you over the years and I hope you continue your mining videos go a long time. I like how every mine has a story to tell and none are alike. Great video! What kind of a ladder was that in the video? I like the graffiti, look like branding iron marks! Soon I will be making the next trip to the China Date Ranch to visit the old railroad bed. Stay well and Happy Thanksgiving to both of you!😀 PS, I did visit the DV 49ers encampment. One lady that lives in Pahrump I purchased a few items and a 1927 cloth map of the Ballarat and surrounding area, what a find!

@ronstanek2851 Hi Ron. Thanks for supporting our channel over the years. Yes, every mine seems to have its own story and even a personality of sorts. No two are alike. The ladder wax just a 2x4 with lugs nailed onto it. It was pretty sketchy, but we were roped in while using it. It's cool that you made it to the 49ers gathering and bought some nice items. Have fun at China Ranch. There is some interesting history involved as well as a beautiful green belt in the dry desert. We appreciate the comment!👍😊
