I still play both TL1 & TL2 from time to time. The main issue I had with TL2 was how hard it was to play in multiplayer a couple years ago (and zero support). But the core game is awesome. I just wish it didn't had such cartoony art.

I was never intrested in any of the Zelda games(i grew up with a crazy religious babysitter that said it was a demonic game ugh…). In 2017 i ended up getting a settlement and one of my impulse buys was a switch, I didn’t know anything about the console and asked the GameStop guy what games he recommended and at the time it was pretty much breath of the wild or Mario odyssey and i went with Mario. I had wanted botw but the stupid Nintendo never dropping their game prices made that much harder considering I don’t wanna drop 60 dollars on a game i have never played a single entry. I finally bought it digitally about two years ago when it was 39.99 on sale and played it all of maybe twenty minutes considering if an enemy even breathes in the same continent as me is an instant kill…..the week tears of the kingdom came out i decided to try BOTW again and did get pretty far. I finally bought tears of the kingdom two days ago and it’s still as hard and very frustrating but it is a lot of fun.

Hey there, I was a huge Descent 1+2 fan ,doing lots of LAN sessions etc., and in fact I even got involved with both Volition Inc and Outrage back in the day, and I for example did the beta test for Descent 3 with a very small group (this wasn't the time of open betas that anyone could join). Being a big D2 fan however D3 was really a let down for me and after a while of playing it I had to realize this. So I agree to your review in most things. I also found it strange that while FreeSpace 1 by Volition had so much better cutscenes even though it was released before Descent 3. One thing to add: There was a Descent 4 planned to be done by Volition Inc after D3 was finished by Outrage. However since D3 completely failed good sales, they instead converted everything they already have to a new franchise "Red Faction". So the original Red Faction game was actually planned once as Descent 4. nice trivia :).

A lot of people who complain about localization, I've found, know little to nothing about the Japanese language and how it works. As someone who has made it a bit of a hobby to do their own dumb comparisons, the differences are there and if you try hard enough to overthink it, you can find "issues" in many translations. But to any ordinary person, the differences are so insignificant and trivial that it changes almost nothing. Like saying "cool" instead of "cute". In my opinion, the differences are really small and don't change anything else most of the time. It can be significant and I have my disagreements with certain choices, but it's usually nothing.

Interesting Analysis apart from a few nitpicks that i see already in the comments. Also the "empire" is not strictly a n**i germany comparison. Is more of an amalgamation of soviet, imperial germany (the one from ww1), austroungarian theme. Is a monarchic system, an autocracy, an empire with a constellation of subjects.. later games put more on a "soviet" style (at least for the tank inspirations). Also i like how the treatment of darksen is fairly universal, there is no "good nation" where everybody is goodytwoshoes, even in Gallia there is discrimination, although less, and it often comes from people IN YOUR squad. VC2 is set in the postwar gallian civil war where forces antiCordelia push to restore a valkyrian heritage who actually never existed. VC3 follow a penal unit of the "good guys" where people who have been found guilty of various crime (some not even guilty) are forced to fight. I would like to point out that there is an anime of the first VC, which isn't the BEST anime around, but in my opinion does a few things better than the game, a few examples: 1)There is a weird triangle between Faldio and Welkins for Alicia attentions which make Faldio's decision to shoot Alicia that more heavy. 2)Faldio decision to trigger Alicia's lineage is treated differently: Faldio watch as his entire squad, which was given a bit of screentime along Squad7, is obliterated by Selvaria along with several gallian units, the gallians are loosing and loosing badly at Naggiars. The enemy valkyria keeps advancing and there is nothing they can do even slow her down. That event leaves him shell shock and when Alicia trot in his tent to try and console him he decide to act. 3)Alicia is actually forced to join the regular army, fight for the army and both distance herself and feels abandoned by both Squad7 and Welkins. That lead her to a mental state in which she feels to no longer have anything to live for but sacrificing herself to save the people she love. After shenanigans.. squad7 decide to mount a rescue op of Alicia (which as fallen captive after failing to destroy the marmota) and during the rescue Faldio sacrifice himself to buy time for Welkins to reach Maximilian and Alicia. Maximilian is actually the one deciding to start the detonation of the marmota is a bit to bring everybody else down with him. Alicia's power have gone unstable and is Welkins who manage to make Alicia remember her humanity before rescuing both. 4) Isara death and aftermath are given more time with both the squad and Rosie taking it way more personal getting angry at their officers and even confronting Welkins for his apparent lack of reactions. Only for him to actually breaking upon entiring his old house after squad7 manage to recapture Bruhl. 5) Alicia is actually very funny in the anime xD especially in the episode where she has to "defend" squad7 and the militia's honour from the reporter! xD

I loved BOTW, for me it will always be top tier. However, with that being said, we won’t be able to get that same shock-value of “omg, I’m playing Zelda in an open concept game,” which had never been done before. I played around 300 hours of BTOW, I was hyped for TOTK and I loved it, I did only play around 200 hours of it. Very enjoyable games but again, it’s extremely hard to make a perfect (or better than the OG) sequel, really hard. I think Nintendo did a great job! For me, having the same map as the OG game was meh, I literally went to every nook and cranny in BOTW so to have to do it again for this new game felt more like a chore. 8/10 for TOTK, 9/10 for BOTW.

So I hope this isn't too harsh, but rather taken as constructive criticism - you should really work on varying up your reading cadence. You have an extremely repetitive way of reading a sentence, especially with how you end them. You start out high and then drop low for the last few words, while also sometimes weirdly pronouncing or drawing out the last word or two. It's so noticeable and consistent that it almost sounds purposeful, but I cant believe that's the case, cuz that would be very bizarre. Just saying, I could only make it halfway through the video cuz of this.

TotK feels like the devs doubled down on all the things we didn't like about BotW while giving the same map we already explored. I'm impressed they managed to somehow make the dungeons even worse than the divine beasts, and the sage ability mechanics were horrible, like Metroid Other M 1st person mode horrible.

I liked vanilla Diablo 2, but the expansion felt like it homogenized the cast with rune words, new mechanics and expansion gear they added, and had maybe 1 or 2 viable builds per class on the hardest difficulty. Diablo 2 may have popularized the ARPG formula, but just about every game that came after it (and even Diablo 1 for that matter) is much more fun to play that Diablo 2.

To think Majora's Mask development time was around a year and they still managed to give a new story, 3 new gameplay styles (5 total), and have amazing dungeon designs. After 6 years to develop a truly massive follow-up to botw, the $70 Totk drops with a largely reused map, lackluster dungeons, and no DLC. The grass WAS greener.

True. But, you can also stumble upon the aftermath of Sonia's death before having seen her death. That's a heavy scene considering Sonia is a surrogate mother to Zelda. Honestly, telling the story through memories is my biggest criticism for both BOTW and TOTK and I hope Nintendo steers away from it in the next game. Flashbacks are fine, just not if it's the entire story.

From what I've seen there's the usual proportion of flat out "hate". It's just that TOTK underlines way more the limitations of what BOTW introduced, without benefiting from its novelty and simplicity. At this point TOTK kinda gets the attention for the worst of all worlds, despite being very fun in its own right. I hope that despite commercial and critical success it's a strong enough signal for the developers that evolution is still really expected. Not that I don't expect them to push themselves as they're moving on to a new setting on a new console.

It just amazes me that the same people who complained about pre-BotW being TOO LINEAR are now complaining about post-BotW as being TOO OPEN. The haters truly need to put their pacifiers and their diapers away and just get over it !!! ... If you prefer the older games ... guess what - you can still play them ! My favorite Zelda game is A Link to the Past. I still play it to this day ... I just choose not to live in the past.
@mkjjoe
@mkjjoe 3 ай бұрын
@@scarmucci1918 How do you they're the same people? This audience is varied. But even for one person, it's ok to adjust out perception with new experiences. When SS released it was burdened by the shoehorned motion controls, excessive hand-holding and there wasn't as much excitement for a repetition of the OOT template. When it re-released after BOTW with some streamlining and button controls people were able to better appreciate the linear approach for what it was, it was a welcome break from the massive open world. None of these experiences can please everyone. But the series has benefited from variety, and sometimes refinement of what came before. I think that's in big part how now after TOTK a lot of people are just ready to really move forward, and it seems hard to conceive anything more open that BOTW/TOTK. It's then logical to expect things to be fleshed out in that open setting, and linearity is one characteristic of design that can help that.
