I love how you are using this! am somewhat familiar with the IEW style of writing as my kiddos have used it this past semester at a local co-op. Neither has done much writing prior to that, but seem to be doing well with the program thus far. If I were to try a themed unit at home for a slower pace, do you think I could combine them into one book? They are currently in 5th and 7th grade, so I am not sure what would be the best fit.
@learningwithboys74317 күн бұрын
From my experience they give options for different levels. You can look at samples to see if the guide you are looking at has that option. For me my oldest was much more advanced so I could not combined. Also is the co-op not working that you would not have them to continue with that😉 Just asking because you said they are doing well with it☺️
@brenkm9557 күн бұрын
@ Yes, they are doing well however the co-op will only be moving forward with the 3rd-5th grade class and not the 6th-8th grade level. I also felt stretched pretty thin assisting them with totally different assignments throughout the rest of week…hoping that combining could help with that. I will definitely take a look at some of the other samples. Thx again!☺️

My 7th grader is almost done with volume 1 and we love this program! I'm not sure if we'll continue with Learn Math Fast when he gets to Algebra because I also have my eye on Denison. We'll see! I'd like to add that I had bought volumes 1-3 somewhere else and noticed in this video that you have COLOR EDITIONS (some blue lettering, colored coins, measuring tools, etc)! Ours are black & white. I recommend to order directly from the company, people. lol I personally want to re-order for the color editions (volumes 2 & 3) but my son said don't bother, it's not worth it. lol ;)

I am always thinking ahead. I planned out a rough "roadmap" for the rest of our homeschool journey. I add items in that I find over the years that seem like something they would be interested in. I have a 10th and 7th grader this year. I do already have somethings already for next year. We have been using this curriculum for the last 5 years and it has been working well for us. Next year is my son's last year of homeschool - he will be a senior... So, yes, we are thinking about next year because I want to make it a really positive year for him. It's his and his sister's last time being able to study together, so we are looking at more together time, especially for literature. So, we are having conversations about what we want next year to look like, but I know my mind may change, so I keep a loose hold on those ideas right now.

Praying for my 11th grader to gain a fresh perspective with his studies. He is not at all overloaded, but he's feeling the pull to work more hours and earn more money to spend on his truck, etc. We only homeschool Tuesday through Friday because he works on Mondays. It's challenging because he's also recently gone through some hard times emotionally, so that has played a part in the motivation factor. He said he thinks studies is a 'waste of time'. 😔
@learningwithboys7431Ай бұрын
Oh yes I have experienced the son with desire to work to spend on truck!! I know I didn’t always agree with money spending decisions but sometimes it is a lesson they have to learn. Finding a place to meet in the middles with school/work. It can be harder the senior year. My oldest finished early and was able to work his last semester😉 But he accomplished what I asked🤪 My knees where sore for praying him through ❤️
@liztefft5312Ай бұрын
@learningwithboys7431 Thank you for listening and for sharing your experiences. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this and that there is a fellow mom and sister in Christ who understands ❤️. We're still in the Junior year, so he's still got quite a way to go, but what younger people don't always understand is how very quickly the time actually passes. I told him he needs to hang in there with me and that one day he will be glad he completed high school. And, yes, I am learning the balance of allowing him more freedoms while still being a voice of wisdom when it is needed. I could not do this without the Lord! I ask for His wisdom all the time ❤. I appreciate you so candidly sharing the joys and the struggles of Christian parenting and homeschooling. It was different with my grown daughter since she is a girl. thank you for leading the way for middle homeschoolers. Not many videos out there to help us newbies! Question about IEW Structure and Style. Would this be considered a language arts curriculum for the year or should I be using structure and style as a writing curriculum and maybe consider purchasing a full Language Arts curriculum for my 6th grader? or should I supplement Structure and Style with a vocab/spelling curriculum? We also use Fix it Grammer and love it!
@learningwithboys7431Ай бұрын
Thank you for your encouragement! I did a video recently about writing. IEW does do a great job at emphasizing and even teaching some grammar. My boys all had grammar and spelling before starting a Structure Style. If just starting I would add fix it grammar and IEW Phonetic Zoo. If they are strong in these areas you could just do the writing for a year. But I would add in grammar again in the future.

I had tried IEW Level A when my kids were in elementary school, and it was a HUGE FAIL! LOL! I started WAY too early! I have JUST NOW started my 9th grader on Level B, and my 11th grader is going to start Level C soon. I agree - it almost hurts you to start this program too early.
