I think this is important I realised at 12 I was bi and trans so double whammy. I spent the best part 10 years suppressing it and as I was brought up in a religious house I use to pray to stop it. It always boils down to immigration it seems. Look, I get what they mean in a sense. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and I live in a _very_ multicultural section of the metropolitan area, possibly the most ethnically diverse area of the city. I'm a white guy, and I would say within my postcode area, most people aren't white. That's not representative of the whole city by a long shot but where I live it is. I'm honestly cool with it. My neighbours are Indians, Afghans, Indonesians, Sudanese, Filipinos, Iranians, Chinese, Bulgarians, Greeks, Russians, Taiwanese Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, it just goes on and on over here. I've learnt it living here, people are the same. Food is different, their religions and backstories are all a bit different, they've all got their story about how their family got to Australia somehow, and they're just having a go. I honestly don't care what colour people are or where they came from. I mean sh*t, me being white, my family came to Australia at some point in the 1800's, and yeah we stole it from the Aboriginal Indigenous people, and that's history, and I really honestly enjoy Australia being multicultural and diverse. Really. And I live in the absolute thick of it if you want to talk about going to the shopping centre and seeing crowds of brown people. It's not even that I'm some super hippy non-judgemental type, plenty of people piss me off, I just don't judge groups of people based on generalities, and I believe that my own sort of European/British ancestry and customs are strong enough to remain intact, and I will say, even if people of my particular ethnicity become a minority. I will give the 'immigration' panic mongers another point, that the term they sometimes use - 'globalism', has some validity. yes, global interaction and trade and finance _and_ immigration is at an all time high probably. Globalism. Guess what? We live on a fkn globe! That is literally the physical reality of our current human dynamic for lack of better words. Maybe back in the old days before aeroplanes and big ships and world wars and electrical communication and we could all pretend to live in an isolated realm, but we're all here right now, we live on a ball of rock whizzing through space, and we need to find a way to peacefully coexist with each other if we're going to survive this.
