You’re leaving a lot of hay that is not being raked or baled

Very nice to know that I'm not the only person running molines. Lol. I cut with a M670 super diesel. Rake with a 445. And round bale with my G1000 diesel. Nice video. Keep it up.

Cool video! I'm used to watering on a much smaller scale, so it's neat to see what watering a large field involves. Thanks for sharing!

I learned how to cultivate on a late 40's Minneapolis Moline R. Had a mounted two row cultivator on the front. I have not cultivated in more than a few years but I have been thinking about using this method again in the future.

Those old “automatic “ balers were ahead of their time. So simple just press one button and let the baler do the rest.

Nice videos, enjoy the old iron. Baled for years with a 565a, it’ll make good bales, when it wants to.

Hopefully things are going ok in your neck of the Plains. Weather has been tough on the livestock this year here on the West Coast.
@goodlifefarming2589 Жыл бұрын
Things are going fairly well. It has been very cold, and we’ve had a fair bit of snow. Luckily we have enough hay to feed the cattle.

It is a 6’ Dempster Windmill.

The 565a is a complicated baler. You had pretty good luck with for a first time. Being fully automatic there is lots to it . Those models hate damp hay.

A lister planter? I am unfamiliar with the term. I grew up on a small farm in Ohio but never farmed. We rented out our land. I did ride on the fender of a Ford tractor for hours with our leasee . My surrogate Grandfather who taught me many things about life that I live by 50 years later.
@goodlifefarming25892 жыл бұрын
The purpose of a lister planter is to dig a big furrow, and place the seed down in the moisture compared to regular style corn planters which just have one disc cutting through the soil. Hopefully that answered your question.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a cultivator running through corn. Perhaps 40 years ago. This is a treat!

In Iowa the farmers have OVER fertilized to the point where even years ago in areal photos you could not tell bodies of water from hay fields due to the nitrogen run off.
@danielkingery28942 жыл бұрын
That bigass spreader made 600# look like an awfully small batch, but 100#/acre is still what ya need. Hope your lil corn plants get a splash of rain to put that product to good use! Luv the old machinery doing its job still. Can't wait to see the cultivator in action.

I luv watching you guys makin' it happen with the older equipment. 😎 We grew silage corn for years, but it just didn't pencil out after all the costs rose so much 20 years ago. Hopefully you guys are making out on the grain aspect. It's fun to get your perspective.

Funny, I was just wondering when you was going to put out a video. And here it is. So where are you in comparison to a typical year. I had an opportunity to travel from Pennsylvania back to Iowa (my home) and it looked like everyone was just getting into the field. For my operation I am a good month behind. The camera angle from the disc is an interesting perspective and the sounds from the moving parts . Enjoy the prairie views in your videos, reminds me of what I am missing.
@goodlifefarming25892 жыл бұрын
Compared to a typical year, we are about 2 weeks behind as far as planting. Thank you for watching!

Good video! I just found your Channel and I enjoyed watching you scuffle the corn or cultivate as you refer to it, being from Southern Ontario we always called it scuffling however, cultivating is also the correct term, I know a lot of people hated doing it however I never did I always enjoyed it, keep the good videos coming!

Those old gleaners are unbelievable. They are still relevant today. Love too see them work.
@danielkingery28942 жыл бұрын
I'd never thought of Cedars being that invasive. It seem obvious that birds spread a lot of the seed due to so many along the fences. Here in our part of OR we have similar issues with Hawthorne and stone fruit trees. Getting it cleaned up will def make things look nicer and more productive for the livestock. 👍

Lol we have two of the same seed drills on my family's farm only difference is ours don't have steel wheels. We had a smaller one that had steel wheels but we scrapped it this last spring. Always cool to see Moline equipment being used though, that's pretty much the only kind of farm equipment my great grandpa and grandpa owned.
