This is not only my favorite song on the album, but it’s currently my favorite one that I’ve ever written and recorded. I’m more proud of this than any of them. I hope that I’ll get to say this again about some new tune I’ve yet to write in the future. But, for now, this is ‘the one’ for me. It’s the third song I wrote the music for on Azuline, after Porcelain and Lower Lash Line. I was stuck on it for a year and a half. Each time I’d write and record a new keyboard part for it, I seemed to get further away from the finish line instead of closer. After not being able to play guitar for close to fifteen years, I decided to visit a guitar shop and just try playing for a few minutes just to see how it would feel. Well, I fell in love with an emerald green Guild Starfire and took it home with me. I call him Golders Green after the Pete Ham album of the same name. In true Shoegaze fashion, I wrote and recorded some guitar tracks that were dripping with gooey goodness with some pedals that I’ll keep secret. The song fell into place almost instantly, and I got goosebumps and chills and couldn’t stop grinning like a big ol’ goofus. Instead of finishing the writing with lyrics and melody, I decided to just keep going and wrote/recorded the music for the other seven songs on the album. Only then did I go back and finish with lyrics/vocals. Once I did add the vocals, I knew right away that this would be my favorite. As of this writing, the album has yet to come out. So, I have no idea what anyone else will think of this, or any of the other songs. Even if nobody else likes it, I’ll still consider it a success because it got me back into being a guitarist who writes Shoegaze tunes, just like when I wrote my very first officially released ditties for Creeping Myrtle a million yonks ago. doldrum.com/the-shy-reserve/time-flies-and-drags/

Yes! I am delighted that someone found this who also was a childhood fan of The Bugaloos. If you pay attention to the chorus lyrics, I'm basically just stringing all of their song titles together to form full sentences, and I'm describing each of their four characters in the verses leading up to the choruses. This is my favorite song on the album. You made my day, Matthew. Cheers! Btw, I just put out a brand new album under a different moniker (The Shy Reserve). All ten videos and songs are on my KZbin channel and also at doldrum.com/the-shy-reserve/

I just watched this again. The doorway effect is strong. This is honestly one of my favourite ever songs. I think of it when I walk into another room, and I think of it when I wake up in another country. When I watch this, I invariably watch it a second time.

It's great work Ran. The musical arrangements are wonderfully imaginative. Your lyrics are truthful and uncontrived. I presume it will be a difficult listen for anyone who hasn't yet figured out how good you are, but how would you change that? Your strength is in your uniqueness. I'm interested in anything you do.

Simon, thanks so much for this! Is this the tune you like best on the new one? My old pal Ben from The Pagan States era played rhythm guitar on this one (also on My Mind's Eye). I'm interested in anything you do as well. You're still one of my all-time fave guitarists.

The calendar is not so kind when the days start to fall off like hours I just walk the miles alone while the ground hides flowers Look into the sky full of diamond lights Winter is fading into one final swoon Hear them cawing with the night No snow, no show, full crow moon The balladeer is not so blind when the rays start to burn off their fire I just walk the miles alone while the crow flies higher Look into the sky full of diamond lights Winter is fading into one final swoon Hear them cawing with the night No snow, no show, full crow moon No snow, no show, full crow moon

He kissed her cheek where tears had left A trail of evidence before whispering into her ear It’s okay, pretty pet, keep dreaming Everything will be better in the morning Promises spill from those lips Like honey stolen from a dying bee Trying to fly on one wing But, we still sting Then the morning proved that he had gone Away from everything after whispering into her ear It’s okay just to keep on dreaming Everything will be better in the evening There’s a false calm to our inner landscape No kisses waiting in the morning Just a trail of sandalwood Sandalwood

Celebrate the quickly fading harbinger of spring Enhance the dance with Mary and Jane Take the transitory trilliums and sing Nothing gold can ever stay the same Breeches with bluebells Heartleaf foamflowers Springtime heart swells High times reflecting hours Peek around the quaker ladies as they sip their tea Little sweet Betsy is the right girl for me Tickle crested Iris as she giggles in the wind Stipple all the toadshade to the end Lose yourself in color As you elevate your mind Float on through the forest With all the new friends you find
