i'm not sure if you have listened to hozier bc no one does horny yearning quite like him! people say he has three modes: sad, horny, and political. if you haven't given his music a thorough listen, i HIGHLY recommend you check him out!

I've heard Take Me to Church but none of his other work, but I've heard rave reviews (especially from the lesbians) - I will put it on my list to listen to! Thank you so much for watching and for the recommendation. 🥰 x

I randomly came across this video and its always amazing to see other Scottish Queer people. I first heard of Chappell back in 2023 and it was when people were all like "this small artist just came out with an album" and I thought it was cute and then all of a sudden bam she was super famous.
@skinnyminniequeen5 сағат бұрын
Hahaha there are dozens of us, so nice to see another Scot in the wild!! I had definitely heard rumblings about Chappell early last year (February/March 2024 time) or maybe even slightly before, but her skyrocket to fame was honestly a bit unprecedented and surreal to watch unfold in real time-- the definition of an overnight success that was years in the making. Thanks so much for watching! 💕

I love your reaction to this album. I'm so glad you slept on it cause I'm pretty sure I've watched every reaction to this album that is on youtube and I'm so happy to see someone else hear it for the first time!! She was signed at 16 in like 2014. She wrote Pink Pony Club(PPC) in 2020, and it's about her first time in a gay bar. Shortly after that she got dropped by her record label. Im unclear if it was because of the pandemic or if PPC was not the musical direction her label thought she would take.. or maybe both. A few days after her label dropped her she got dumped by her long term bf. She ended up moving back to Missouri for about a year (idk how long specifically) to save money up again. She wrote California about that time.

When I tell you everyone, and I mean everyone, in my life was telling me to listen to this album; I'm just woefully stubborn and held off until now for literally no discernable reason. I think listening to the album with the greater context of her rise to fame and public persona has just enhanced my enjoyment though, so I'm glad I waited! A few people have mentioned this backstory to California and it's honestly heartbreaking. What a vulnerable and honest display of what 'failure' can feel like as an artist (or as a human, since nobody dates with the expectation of separation) but again with the greater context of her success and queer self-discovery, it becomes just a part of her story of success in the grand scheme of things rather than her undoing. Peaks can only happen when there's valleys! What a beautiful song. Thank you so much for watching. 💕

I’m laughing because you say that all the songs sound the same but at least 8 times you said “this song is different than the others” 😂😂😂 Listen through again and you will see how much versatility is in this album And how many different pop genres she draws from. So with the lyric content she’s presenting something new and fresh but it has so many nostalgic elements from 80’s and 90’s pop.

I highly highly HIGHLY recommend watching her Lolla concert and Tiny Desk. That's when I knew she isn't just an artist with an amazing voice and gift for production. She's like a Freddy Mercury. 😭🤌

Something that has made even the most uptight folks ponder is, why is Hot To Go *so good* . The general consensus is that, usually music like hers and Hot to Go in particular, is not as good. But I think it is because Hot To Go is a modern, campy version of Hey Mickey. And I can't name a single person that doesn't bop their head a little when Hey Mickey plays in a optimistic setting.

Hi 👋 you are stunning 🤌👑 I loved this video! I'm a new subscriber, I feel honored to find your channel and be a part of your growing subscribers. You're not late to the Chappell show, you're right on time! I didn't "find" her til a few months ago, couldn't deny her presence once I saw what happened at Lollopolooza (GIRL ✋ 😳🤯 YOU MUST GO SEE IT IF YOU HAVEN'T YET👑👑) and then I subsequently felt remorse for not knowing Chappell sooner too, lol. But once I listened to this album in full and went down more rabbit holes, it changed the whole game. I knew she was a diva unlike the others but I had no idea she was literally a supernova. I love that you caught the vibe of yearning too! That's absolutely on point. The other thing that really really bought it for me is her undeniable gift of command. She commands the room, and it's like she commands the music, even if she's not in the room her music commands the room. I think she's taken over in such a unique colossal way that somehow continues to be universally enjoyed from person to person, is because she is what we needed and also what we have been missing from pop music and culture for a long time. It's almost nostalgic for something that we didn't know we were. We were expecting her for a long time but had no idea til she got here. And it wasn't an overnight success but the fact that she has progressively then insurmountably taken hold is just proof of how she has created or revived a certain finesse that we were also very much welcoming. I love watching reaction videos to her stuff from every which corner, straight dad's, classical music fans, girls girls, gays. I have been completely confounded to find that out of all of these I have yet to find someone that wasn't at the least, curious and fascinated, or at most, immediately obsessed. It's actually pretty wild how far and deep she has gone so far in terms of people being unexpectedly fans. Elton John for example, is a total fangirl of hers. Idk, I love her, and I can't help but write an essay about it in comment sections 😅

As for the Marina comparison, I think they just meant the vibes rather than the lyrics. She's also often compared to Lady Gaga etc, and you're right that what they all have in common is that drag/camp element to them.
@skinnyminniequeen5 сағат бұрын
I think I can see an early Lady Gaga musical similarity (Summerboy, Brown Eyes, Boys Boys Boys) but honestly the artist I'd compare Chappell to the most would be Cyndi Lauper! In saying that though, Gaga's early career between her outrageous fashion choices and being outspoken politically/to the media is also quite similar to Chappell! Thanks for watching. 💕

At least when Chappell sings about sex it isn't just a dozen tracks of "I'm so hot and confident" like Sabrina.
@skinnyminniequeen4 күн бұрын
I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with an album being about sex or sex being a central theme of a piece of art- sex is literally how we functionally exist, we all have a unique and complex relationship with it! It just simply wasn't what I was expecting given how people had sold Chappell to me over the last year.

She's actually said she wrote much of this before she really had her first experiences with women while still with a man. I think that's part of the reason for the hyper sexual fantasy and yearning.... her follow up song good luck babe really explores some of the unique complexity in lesbian dating once she had a bit more experience. In any case, the fact she said she didn't want to end on a bummer, and decided to yodel her way out is a power move regardless of if you like the song. 😊 Awesome reaction, i loved hearing your insight and wish you the best with your career and channel. ❤

While I agree that there's a ton of horniness in most of the songs, I like that the album explores all the different WAYS that desire/longing/lust can manifest - and all the big and small ways it can thread through our emotions and thoughts, across the whole spectrum of human experience. Like, the angry/vindictive horny in "My Kink is Karma" is very different from the melancholy/lonely horny in "Picture You" which is very different from the joyful/exuberant horny in "Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl." Great reactions and discussion! :)
@skinnyminniequeen5 күн бұрын
I couldn't agree more! To 'want' is one of the core experiences of the human condition and I absolutely commend Chappell for finding so many ways to explore it, as you say the mood between songs shifts quite tremendously while maintaining that theme of desire. I think especially to be horny for someone's downfall like she is in My Kink is Karma is both a unique and genuinely interesting way to infuse her artistic voice with a situation that one wouldn't immediately associate with lust! Thank you so much for watching. 💕

I've watch many Midwest Princess full album reactions, and yours ranks highly. Especially on the ballads... Chappell writes killer ballads, and you're very attuned to and connect well to them. Coffee was based on a re-connection with an ex who had moved to NYC, that occurred when she and friends helping her were there for a week shooting her Naked In Manhattan music video. IRL she did meet the ex, did drink, did sleep with them (I think it was a male ex but we'll leave it gender neutral), and felt used and sad about her decision afterwards. She wrote Coffee as what she wished she's done instead. Side note, I suspect Chappell actually will watch this vid. While I have no idea how many Midwest Princess reaction vids she watches, but I imagine someone on her team is likely to tell her yours is good, and she does love all things drag.

Its funny how different expiriences with music renders different interpretations, because I got SUCH asexual vibes on my first listen, and Chappel did come out as demisexual, and it makes sooo much sense to me. Especially for songs like femininominon, red wine supernova, casual and coffee.

Love the reaction. This is one of my favorite albums. The funny thing about how horny the songs are, It's all her persona. From interviews I've seen, Kayleigh Rose is actually demi or at least somewhere on the Ace spectrum. Her Chappell Roan persona, on the other hand, is her inner hypersexual. That's one of the reasons that all the sexual content is about yearning for it instead of actually doing it.
