thank you. I really needed this explained so clearly. Now as video started over while signing in to google and typing this I had to go back and listen again. I thought I heard you say "Louisville". I was wondering as I listened/watched where your church was located? It could have been anywhere in the world stumbling across the message, but your church is in Louisville, I live in Elizabethtown so not too far away. I recently started back to church, and I have been seeking a better understanding of Sanctification and the Gift of the Spirit. For the last 5 Sundays I have been attending the Reformed Baptist Church I live next to. I really need it because I was baptized in a Pentacostal Church 1979-80, but that did not work out as my life got in the way. I won't go too much, but I can really relate to you and understand what you are saying. I wrote down all the scripture of reference and will continue the study. I may have more questions. Thank you.

I thought I heard you say that nothing can be added to or subtracted from what Jesus did for our salvation. But then you said WE must 1. Make a cognitive decision 2. turn from our sin in repentance 3. put our trust, our saving faith in Jesus. So not everyone goes to Heaven. You said Jesus said “I am the Way the Truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. “ You see this as being explanatory of Salvation is only through Jesus. When Jesus also says “Unless you eat if my body and drink k of my blood you will not have life in you. “ Why don’t you see this as an imperative they we must do this for salvation? So then you go on to talk about worldly sorrow vs Godly sorrow. Where is this in the Sacred Scripture. I have been a Christian for 30+ years. Never heard of this. And if Jesus sacrifice was enough and we can’t add or subtract anything how can we “not get this right”? This is completely confusing. The Catholic model is so much more assistance and logical and makes more sense. What God wants is for us to submit our will to his will. We make this decision every single day as a follower of Christ. Salvation is our relationship with God. It isn’t a simple equation of just believe and then that’s it oh except that you also have to be sanctified rest of your life for 20 or 30 or 40 years like you said. Our salvation is in Jesus because he is God’s son and he went to the cross to demonstrate how we are to be sacrificial in our love for one another.

@Ryan Buikema And what is a work then? And on what authority do you define it?
@PatrickSteil2 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema You didn’t answer my question. What is your definition of a work? It is important that we understand what each other is saying.
@PatrickSteil2 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema That is not a definition of what a work is. You are telling me what a work can/can’t do, but what is it? What is your definition of Salvation?

@Ryan Buikema And what is Salvation?
@PatrickSteil2 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema I don't think you have studied this very deeply. To be clear, the Catholic position is that our initial justification is a free gift, freely given without us doing anything or even deserving to be saved. AND ALSO, we must "believe" in His Divinity, in His Sovereignty, in His Creation - and His power to save us from our Sin. We must also "repent" and be washed in Baptism. We must also obey His Commandments. He tell us the most important commandment is to "love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, mind, soul and strength" - are these not required for a saving RELATIONSHIP with Jesus? Is Salvation a life long relationship with Christ, or is it a get out of Hell card? Here is some very blatant scripture. You know, the one from James that Martin Luther would have preferred to remove from our Bible. Six times it says that Faith cannot be separated from works. Can we "believe" (love, trust, obey, honor, fear (the Lord)) Jesus without doing works? Of course not. Can you love anyone without doing works? I should hope not! 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [c]dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made [d]perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was [e]accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

So what really happened is that Peter, Paul and a few other guys were watching Mary Magdalene and her friends take their weekly baths in the river. After they left they saw Jesus and John up river and they were playing some kind of naked dunking game. So Peter says, "Hey, what are you guys doing?" Jesus and John were caught off guard so John says, "Oh... um.... I'm dunking Jesus in the river like that story we heard in school about Achilles. You know, make him immortal." So the guys kinda say, "Oh, ok, whatever." As they are walking away Peter says, "Those two are always playing grab ass somewhere while the rest of us men are spying on the ladies." Then Paul says, "That John guy is Batshit Crazy, and now he's playing some naked dunking game with Jesus. I mean.... not that there's anything wrong with that." So from then on they referred to John as "John the Batshit". Move ahead a few centuries, several different language translations of the story, and "Batshit" became "Baptist". So basically the Baptist religion is based on some Baptist, aka "Batshit", naked guys dunking each other in a river.
