Thanks for the great video . Your focal points are massively helpful. Your very generous sharing your knowledge. After 1 year back after a 20 year layoff from straight pool this is getting me in the right direction. In the 70s and 80s the knowledge was never shared. A player still has to put the work in, but with help like this it won't be time wasted. Thanks again.

Jimmy took home the $3.5K prize. Adjusted for inflation, that is equivalent to $36K today in 2025.

My dad showed me how to play billiards back in the 70s. Willie Mosconi and Minnesota Fats were 2 of his favorites. Took me many years to beat my dad at pool legitimately. He was that good.

Three things, it is crazy how everyone is wearing a suit, the players and everyone in the crowd watching. And it is really annoying how the ref points at the ball they are shooting then points at the pocket they are shooting it in. All he has to do is call the shot, he does not need to point at everything with his finger, and if he did that to me I would tell him to stop with the stupid pointing. And finally, one of the men doing commentary said the players are thinking a dozen shots ahead, when there were only 6 balls on the table, lol. He is a fool, no pool player in the world thinks a dozen shots ahead, at the most they think 4 shots ahead, and most of the time you just think of the angle you need to get on the next ball. Sometimes you think 3 or 4 balls ahead, but never a dozen, ever, that is ridiculous, and his partner never told him he was wrong.

These two of the best that ever lived. I remember that day that he sent 568 balls and then went home without missing. Mosconi sunk balls like a wizard and finally was wore out. That record stood for years and he could have had he been younger could have definitely kept going.

8:01 Only 127? Today's record is in the 700s
@LimJaheyAtYourCervix2 ай бұрын
Buddy, they were playing on 10 foot tables with equipment that is nowhere near the quality of todays. Cues, balls, cloth, rails , everything was years behind todays equipment. Gotta consider that
@procrastinator69022 ай бұрын
@@LimJaheyAtYourCervix10 foot tables were pretty much transitioned out by the mid 50s and the record had been set on a 9'. But in any case, in straight pool, most of your shots are all played in the upper two pockets and the sides anyhow, there are few long shots played down table. And a 10' table would actually be mostly beneficial for straight pool because the larger size helps with congestion issues. While today's equipment certainly is fantastic, the things they had even back then were still high quality. My local cue repair guy has a 1920s Brunswick Monarch that he restored and that thing is awesome to play on, like a dream. I do suppose in hindsight tho, I probably shouldn't have commented negatively. 127 is a great number, Shaw's record is just otherworldly. My own personal record is just 41 and I was ecstatic to hit that!
