The reason Finnish comes up for various Asian people's records is not because of actual Finnish ancestry but rather various Finno-Ugric and related ethnic groups scattered around Siberia and west of the Urals, which myheritage can't differentiate due to low dna data from those ethnicities. The reason it appears in some Japanese is due to the Liao civilization, who lived in today's Manchuria around the Liao river and are the genetic ancestors of all Finno-Ugric peoples, some of whom went to Japan during the Yayoi invasion and this shows up in Japanese genetics as a few percentages.

Very interesting. its the same reason ive got 3%jewish and 2,7% Westasia, due to an ancient deepdive i found out that my ancestors in the Iron age are like 51% Scythians, which makes an enormous chunk of 28% Northern Slavic/East European that is in my modern DNA, if you look closely where the Scythians traveled they also got to syria and else. im overwhelmingly white and the other big part was from Germanic descent. like 55% Scandinavia which breaks down on 4 different Viking Populations, and a few Franks. Im German, and my ancestors came from the Eastsea and northern Germany. Very very Intersting to know and it gives you some kind of inner peace knowing where you and your ancestors are coming from in a way!

@Snowstorm You need to understand that phenotype does not always correlate with genetics. Yes, they are blonde. But Eastern Finns, who mixed less with Swedes, are typically 8-10% Siberian in genetic studies. Arkhangelsk Russians, who are not genetically Slavs but are actually Russified Finno-Ugric people, get 13%. So, like it or not, there is a northern Asian substratum in Finno-Ugric people. The proposed urheimat of Uralic languages is somewhere in Siberia, Krasnoyarsk I think. As for why these high percentages do not show up marked as Siberian on tests like 23andme - it’s because this is such a deeply embedded part of their genepool and 23andme shows our recent ancestry. It would confuse a layperson if they broke it down like that, and they know it. You can see your real deep ancient ancestry using calculators on sites like GEDmatch but if you don’t understand it or have a knowledge of history, it will confuse you. Back to what I said about phenotype not correlating with genetics. I’m sure you’ve heard of Meghan Markle, right? She’s 43% black African. Yet many people thought she was Southern European. With her hair straightened she’s quite ambiguous. Charles didn’t even realize she was mixed race when he met her. My point is, something not being visible doesn’t mean it’s not there. And on that note, I would argue the Asian blood is very visible in some Finns. Look at Pekka Eric Auvinen, infamous killer - his kind of look/phenotype doesn’t exist outside Finland, northern Russia and maybe some Sami influenced people in northern Scandinavia.

Japan built an artificial island called Dejima in Nagasaki for Portuguese merchants and missionaries. I think it was isolated to prevent the spread of epidemics, so only merchants and samurai were allowed to enter. Moreover, Portugal was not a colony and was paying money for this leased land.

Also the most common paternal haplogroup, which 2/3 of men possess, is the N which is mostly found in Siberian peoples and extremely rare in Europe (outside of Finland and Baltic countries such as Estonia and Lithuania, it is nonexistent..
