Teach him to be closer to the pitcher so he looks closer to the base from the mound, it will allow a larger lead that doesn’t look as large to the pitcher

This is such a great drill, in fact all of your drills are really effective and fun for my team. I ran this one, in particular, as my warm up with my 6-7 year old team this weekend and we saw significant improvements in fielding and play awareness in our game. We expanded this drill to include all kinds of scenarios in the infield and outfield with outstanding results. Thanks for all of your content!

I'm a 10U coach looking for drills and the algorithm showed me your videos - I'm def taking ideas from you - thanks for posting! (We do the pickle drill, but the backup drill from a year ago is great and I'm trying it out tmrw at practice).

Ha thanks for letting me know. The wrinkle for the backup drill that I don’t have on video is to tell the kids there is a runner on 1st. Then hit it to your coach on 3B who will throw to 2B and let it go through. On that specific double play ball, the RF has to read and back up that throw. I’ve seen many little league home runs happen because the RF does not back up the throw. It’s a lot to put on the RF but with practice they can do it!
