It's a Billy Corben doc so I'm dying to see it. At first I was blown away I never heard of it, then I realized it was from 2024 and can't find it anywhere online yet which is usually the case with anything smaller scale that goes to a film festival. the first 20 minutes moved very slowly, in fact I was looking at my watch which I never do, good actors, the story played out kinda boring if I'm honest, now I'm a fan of all things 60's and found that the portrayal of the counter culture elements were weak and almost parody. I wasn't pulled in Dylan fan or not, I actually found it kind of boring. Where was all the other music of the time, surely he was engaged with it also. A light touch on protests and the drug scene (and Dylan's involvement) come on. Could have been better yeah. Dragged alot and yeah too long. A tame movie about nothing - too bad.

The only thing I would add, which is left out of most other reviews I have watched, is the way the filmmakers did a superb job of illustrating the early 60's. It is obvious that the tremendous events of that time are influencing the artists but I never felt like it was too strongly expressed, just the perfect backdrop which inspired this iconic music. Literally heard about this film like 2 weeks ago when KZbin recommended the trailer and knew I wanted to see it. I didn't want to do any more research on it and just go in with no expectations. So I bought an 'IMAX 70mm' ticket for AMC @ Lincoln Square which is the only true 70mm in the city. Anyways I got there yesterday evening to find out they weren't even screening it in the 70mm IMAX theatre (the same one where Oppenheimer and Interstellar recently were streamed). Anyways all that to say that despite not having the visual and audio experience the 70MM IMAX theater it was still a great watch. More movies with long run times should have intermissions by the way, those 20ish minutes in between is nice to stretch and run to the bathroom. The pacing and visuals was just perfect, especially in the first half. I think the second half, after the intermission, isn't as strong as the first but I feel like it's a movie I need to watch again to really form an opinion and appreciate everything that went into it. Keep up the good work bro :). Not surprised to see you reviewing movies after film school. This is you in your element!

All the authoritarianism of a military dictatorship scandalizes the middle class, but for the majority of the exploited working class, something typical of countries on the periphery of capitalism, the dictatorship is not over yet and, in this aspect, the film does not speak to this audience, unfortunately.

@luizsergiobezerradasilva226120 күн бұрын
@@NathanielAhart I've just realized why you feel that you lost the momentum. Let's say that the third act of the movie is when the family leaves Rio to São Paulo. We jump in time from the 70's to the 90's, the dictatorship had ended already. So there wasn't a reason to have "more action" going on like when Eunice and her daughter were kidnapped. When Eunice is getting interviewed by the reporters, there's one asking if it matters so much searching about the past while there were more important things after the redemocratization. This exemplifies how that momentum was left behind.
