You don't want to move up to be a supervisor or anything that doesn't belong to the union. You will never be allowed to be in the union and you are out as soon as you say you want to be a worker who gets what a Manager gets and paid. Say you are in the union 10 years and you go to a boss, that is the day it stops and it ends your Union years. You will get credit for 10 years but when you work for the company. They can't tell a union worker he can't leave after his 5 hours is over or his shift in the hub you work at. They can't just tell you, the company says we have to let this many people go and im sorry but you don't have a job no more or you just might have someone who is your boss and he doesn't like you. You can look for another job because he can tell you that you have to work 7 days a week or you are working whenever they tell you. They just let go of 2 thousand people in management but they couldn't touch a union worker. See, what we all say,its 30 years in and you can retire but it depends on what you deside. My son will be able to retire at 50 years old, I only pray i can get 10 years in but I already had 3 years in the Teamsters before I started there and I should have went to UPS when I was younger but I had a family and back then it took 10 years just to get a full time job at UPS but if I make it to 60 I will have at least 13 years and if God helps me to get to retirement, I will do alright with a social security check plus what the union gives me. My cousin started at 18 and he's 62 and he could have been done retired but if he leaves today,he gets 5 thousand and 8 hundred dollars a month just from the union but he could have retired after 30 years. My son is smart and he knows if he makes it to 50 he doesn't have to worry about what he is going to do for the rest of his life,he will be able to live a good life from the money he could get from the union after 30 years and he can at least enjoy the rest of his life and not have to work his life away like I had to. I would have been retired but that union company shut down and I had to do something else to raise my family. I only went to UPS because I know how many people are going to retire soon and that will make my job easier but I can tell you. You think you are in shape until you start working there because you don't need to do anything but work and and you talk about working out at a gym, its nothing compared to ups but I am a loader. Your going to get in the best shape of your life if you can deal with being sore because you're body want be used to it and you can be working out and think this job is nothing. You will feel like you never worked so many muscles in your body ever but I just telling what you have to do but you can be at the mercy of UPS and get fired for nothing or be in the union because I know people who are there now and they wish they could go back in time. They thought they were helping themselves because they were getting out of all the work and all they do is make sure every loader has enough people and if he needs to move people around to keep up with what is coming down the belts and when you're shift starts. You know because it doesn't stop coming until they hit that number they want to reach and 10 minute breaks go by fast and you only get one if it's 5 hours, they will give you 2 if they see you have stayed because you don't have to after 5 hours but everything after 5 hours to a part time worker is overtime so we stay unless its something important wr have to do and peek seasons where you make most your money. All and don't hire in at peek season, everyone gets let go, get on after its over and join the union the first day so you can count down how long you have to retire
