I know what you mean, some plants simply are not appropriate to our climate, no matter our efforts to make them happy. I have some of those.This one really is a wonderful cactus and my climate may be the ideal for it and it shows how happy it feels. Olá querida Josefina, bom dia. Acho que não quero mais rabo nenhum. Este vai ficar filho único 🤣 Para já, tenho pouco espaço mas principalmente acho que fiquei traumatizada daquela vez que mandei vir do norte um rabo de rato magnifico que tinha uns bons 2 metros de comprimento. Era lindo mas ao fim de um tempo reparei que os caules estavam a apodrecer por dentro, embora exteriormente não se notasse nada. Só reparei quando tirei um pedaço para oferecer a uma amiga. Tentei aproveitar vários pedaços mas todos apodreceram. Só mais tarde percebi por quê. Ele teve de vir enrolado numa caixa que por sinal até era bastante grande mas nos sítios onde enrolou deve ter forçado e começou a apodrecer por ali e quando reparei já a planta estava toda afetada. Enfim, os gostos também mudam e depois daquela fase em eu queria ter tudo, agora estou mais calma. Beijinhos e bom resto de semana 🤗🥰😘

Hi Troy, I was lucky to have found this at a reasonable size and price at an orchid fair but it was several years ago, in 2019. It is not a fast grower but it grows continously, even during winter. @@kevins9242 hi Kevin!!! Good question !!! Not difficult with Phalaenopsis, the color of the roots is the indicator. If they have turned silvery it means they are getting dry. I try to leave at least one root visible on the side of the transparent pot. I am still adapting to watering with pumice but what I have noticed is that pumice never feels wet but it rather provides constant humidity but good drainage and ventilation. To make sure roots got hydrated I soak the pots which I always have done with any kind of medium. Thank you for reaching out. If you need more insight please let me know. Happy start to the week 💐🥰

@@josefinahenriques Muito bom dia amiga Josefina!!! Em Lisboa eu tinha um desumidificador mas era um apartamento e era mais fácil de retirar a humidade. Tudo fechado depois de arejar a casa. Mas aqui é impossível pois a porta para o pátio está sempre aberta durante o dia, mesmo no inverno. Há sempre coisas para fazer lá fora e a humidade lá fora é demais. Hoje mesmo está nublado e a humidade é tanta que chuvisca. Mas não molha o chão, é só a humidade que anda no ar, chegando aos 98por cento. Muitas vezes levanta de tarde e vem o sol mas acho que hoje isso não vai acontecer. Quem quiser fresquinho aqui encontra hehehe 🤣 Beijinhos 😘

So true, Laurent !!! I wish I could grow them outdoors mounted on trees but unfortunately my winter temperatures are warm enough. The only orchids I can grow mounted on trees are Dendrobium nobile and I have a few. I also grow some Cymbidium planted on the ground. Thank you for your comment, much appreciated ❤️💕💕

Also no concerns about getting acidic. The downside is that I have to water more frequently during summer. I cannot count on Rain as here it hardly ever rains during summer. Hi Joe, thank you so much for watching and commenting and for your suggestion. I forgot to mention in this video that humidifier is useless for me. The thing is, we like to keep the door that connects the lounge with the patio outdoors. We keep it opened all year long during the day, not only because of the cat and dog but also for me and my husband. The patio is like an extension of the house and we have gotten so used to have the door opened that we almost feel almost claustrophobic if we have to close it. Quanto á Myrmecophila thompsoniana, a minha foi uma troca que fiz com a Nina de Ninja_orchids há já alguns anos. Mas sei que ela comprou de Thai Orchids and more. Acho que é na Tailandia. Mas ela comprou em 2018 quando ainda era possivel importar sem as restrições que existem hoje. Se ainda não tentou, veja nas nurseries da Alemanha. Phalaenopsis used to be hard to grow for me, too before I transitioned to water culture. I am not happy having to go back to pots. But I am hopeful they will love the pumice. These days, most of my orchids are growing in inert medium. More watering, yes, you are right. And I cannot count on summer rain as it does not happen. Hi Tom, thanks for the suggestion. I have a dehumidifier but I hardly use it because it's no use. What I mean is, the door that leads to the patio is always open during the day, regardless of the time of year. It's not only because of the pets, dog and cat. We, my husband and I, also like to have it open. We think of the patio as an extension of our lounge...

I love my epiphytic cacti and I have to admit that they give me a lot back and are not as fussy as most orchids 🤣 The oxypetalum and the hondurensis are particularly rewarding as they have been opening blooms for quite a while now and many more to open. I really don't understand why the other two species never bloomed. Not to mention the anguliger which I forgot to add to the video. But I am glad that at least the other two are making me happy already. Thanks for confirming the id of Cereus jamacaru. Thank you so much dear friend. I am still amazed how I did not broke any bone. Even the glasses did not suffer. My face turned black especially around eyes but it's all gone now. The nose is still sore but getting better. Íris is a very naughty girl so much different from the other german shepherds we had before.
